Default Programmable IR blaster software for Vista

Hi

I´m not shure if this is the correct forum to post this in:

I have in windows xp with success used HIP to blast IR to my TV and my amp, with the Microsoft MCE remote, i used the replacement driver.

But this doens not work in vista.

I have read a lot of posts here, but it seems that none of them is giving med the correct answer..

Ive tryed with the new replacement driver, but thats a no go, hip registers the command, but there is no action in windows..

What am i doing wrong?

ok,

I don't know what you're doing wrong ... but let's try to figure it out.

You installed the Replacement Driver for Vista that you found on this forum?

Do you have an x86 or 64-bit version of the OS?

HIP is a great program, and I've not heard of this problem before. You could try posting on the HIP forums:

DVB Owners Discussion Forum - dvbowners.com (Powered by Invision Power Board)

Or if you want you could try the IR Server Suite. It has slightly better support for the MCE remote, and I know it works in Vista (at least, it did the last time I checked ). You can find the latest version linked in my signature.

If you want to try re-installing the replacement driver, that might be worth a shot to. Try the "You don't need the Replacement Driver" thread I have linked in my signature too, it has a copy of the replacement driver but also some reasons why you don't need it any more (although if you want to use HIP in Vista then you do need it ).

Good luck,

thanks for youre reply.

I´m using Vista Ultimate 32bit

Ive tried reinstalling the replacement driver, HIP recognizes the IR commands from my MCE remote, but windows does not..

I will try your IR server suite program, i don´t care what the program is called, as long as it does what i want
And that is, being able to press one key on the remote, and then the MCE blaster, blasts IR commands to my amp and my tv, and by pressing vol +/- it blasts the commands to my amp.

I really like HIP, it's free and it works well, so I don't like taking users away from HIP.

However, if you can't get it to do what you want then it doesn't matter how much I like it.

What you've described should be very easy to achieve with either HIP or IR Server Suite. As I said before, I don't know why HIP wouldn't work but it should be easy to do with IR Server Suite.

And with IR Server Suite you can use the default driver in Vista, with HIP (and most others) you need the replacement driver.

Also, keep in mind that when you use the replacement driver the default button actions will no longer work and must be re-mapped in the software you're using (be it HIP or any other).

I hope that help, please don't hesitate in asking if you have any trouble. I'll do my best to help you out.

Cheers,

Thanks for youre answer

Ok.. ive now rolled back to the oem vista driver for the microsoft remote, everything works fine as it should, then i installed IR server Suite, and i tried to learn some IR commands from my tv/amp remote, and tried to blast them via the TEST button, but nothing happens.. ??
My TV og my AMP is not recieving any commands?
Everytning else still works fine.. its just like the blaster doesnt blast enything?
It says learning ok.

I like HIP as well, but the fact that i could´nt make it work under Vista, made me seek other possibilities.

When you try to blast, what port do you select? "Both" ?

Does the little IR bud light up when it blasts? Or not at all?

Can you supply some log files? Most of the logs are found in the start menu, Programs, IR Server Suite, Logs.

What sort of remote is it ? Is it one of the ones pictured at this site:

MCE Remote - MythTV

If so which one?

This problem might be for the same reason you couldn't get it to work with HIP... But we'll see what we can do.

Ok.. now i got everything to work, i didnt change anything, but it seems that the program is a bit unstable on my system?

How do i disable the remote vol keys, så they only interact with my amp?

There's a couple of ways to get the volume keys doing what you want... either reprogram the button on the remote (there's info in the MCE remote manual for this) or make the registry changes to remove the automatic handling of remote buttons.

The registry change information can be found in my post "You don't need the MCE replacement plugin", it's linked in my signature below.

Good luck, and be sure to try the next 1.0.4.2 preview when I post it in a few minutes.

Thanks, but the registry change disables all buttons right?

It seems that my problem where, that when starting the pc the service hangs or do not start, the translater displays "reconnecting" in the tray?

I will try the new version, great job btw

Yes changing the registry (which can now be done in Input Service Configuration -> Microsoft MCE section) will stop all buttons from being handled automatically.

If the new version does anything strange then please zip up the log files and post them here so I can take a look and try to figure out what's going wrong.

Thanks,
