Default Weather Plugin Enhancement

I've done some work to enhance the weather plugin. One thing I noticed in the feature request forum is that quite a few people had asked for multiple weather images to be available, so I thought I'd have a go at enhancing the plugin.

There's still a bit of work to do, but here are some screenshots taken from my PC. I should have this finished pretty soon.

Looking damn good. Is all information grapped from weather.com?
Including satellite images?

Nice, love it. Another thing that I would like to see is that you only show one day at the time in the first screen and then have a list controle where you go to the next day (like when you scroll through all your music, movies etc). That way you would be able to have some more space when you are doing the layout. It feels very cluttered the way it is now.

Hi,

looks really nice paulh. Great work.

I would also like to see something like Samsonite describes. Do not know, if you know the weather module from meedio? But that is really nice working with a list of the days on the left (small infos) and detailed infos in the middle of the screen for the selected day.

Keep up the great work. Flip.

Paul,

Very nice work indeed! May I submit my 2 suggestions or feature requests?

1. Be able to link rolling images, I mean by that some sites offer a serie of .jpg files number 01 to 20 for exemple, and on there site, they run a small script to display it as an animated one. So, in the config it should be possible to put the URL with something like [01-20] for the variable part?
An exemple is:
http://www.radar.mcgill.ca/local_rad.../new_ref.1.gif
..
http://www.radar.mcgill.ca/local_rad.../new_ref.9.gif

2. It would be nice to be able to define a slide show composed of the configured images (satellite, radar, ...)

... and let us know when the plugg-in is ready, Henry8-)

paulh,

very.... very nice indeed!!! I really like the options... I check the weather every day before work and to be able to see the wind etc.. is great. I ride a motorcycle, in Holland, and wind is kind of important.. to stay on the road

Thanks for the positive feedback guys.

I've started looking at Samsonite's suggestion of showing a single day on the screen at a time. I was thinking the best way to do this without making the plugin look identical to the meedio one (even though it does look very nice ) was to use the button I added that changes the weather image to also double up to select the days weather you want to view, but also leave the option to view all four days weather as it currently is now.

Let me know what you think and I'll post some more screenshots as soon as this bit is done!

Right then…I’ve updated the code to allow each day to be displayed as a single screen with all its forecast info (temperature, wind speed, time of sun rise, etc) shown. You can switch between each of days forecast by pressing the button underneath refresh.

This link here will show you some more screenshots.

What I’m going to do now is tidy the code up and do a bit of testing so it can be uploaded as a patch on sourceforge. One question I do have is what’s the best way to deal with translating all the strings I added into other languages? Google? or could someone give me a hand.

Once this bit is sorted I’ll look at making a few more enhancements to the plugin that other people have suggested. It’s actually quite addictive!
