Default Dscaler skipping problems...

TV-Server Version: 14579 multi seat (but seen with many versions)
MediaPortal Version: 14579 (but seen with many versions)
MediaPortal Skin: blue 2
Windows Version: Vista (and XP Pro SP2)
(Problem seen on multiple hardware setups and with different tuner cards)
MPEG2 Video Codec: DSCALER
MPEG2 Audio Codec: DSCALER (or other)

hi guys - I've been having a problem running dscaler with my TV Server setup for some time so I wanted to see if someone might be able to suggest what I'm doing wrong. (Dscaler is by far the best quality codec for sports in my setup so I really want to get it working )

When I fast farward / rewind / skip live or recorded TV the first thing that happens is I hear a fraction of a second of audio from the point in the stream that I've skipped to and then the video and audio freezes for about 30 seconds and then plays again.

The following show the feeze in the MP Client logs:

2007-05-10 22:03:39.304622 [Info.][MPMain]: VMR9Helper: playing->repaint 0
2007-05-10 22:03:59.162726 [Info.][11]: planescene: PresentSurface() frame:0 enabled:True allowed:False 1026x576
2007-05-10 22:03:59.197880 [Info.][MPMain]: VMR9Helper: repaint->playing 1

Here is a log when I was using MPV as the video codec:

2007-05-10 22:11:35.028080 [Info.][MPMain]: VMR9Helper: playing->repaint 2
2007-05-10 22:11:35.057375 [Info.][5]: planescene: PresentSurface() frame:0 enabled:True allowed:False 768x576
2007-05-10 22:11:35.073976 [Info.][MPMain]: VMR9Helper: repaint->playing 1

Any ideas? Thanks for your help.

(happy to upload any needed info or provide more detail

Hi Guys - Just wondering if anyone has any ideas on this? It's a huge problem for me because the quality difference between dscaler and other codecs is massive. If there's anything I can do to help the process please just let me know.

BTW I'm still seeing the same issue with latest code (14711).

Thanks for your help.

Yep same problem here. I figured it's some oddity with the way the dscaler codec works with MP that is causing it, but took a long time to work out the 30-sec pause issue was caused by DScaler.

I figured for a long time that it was caused by very-beta-ness of MP TVServer.

It's a pity there is this issue with dscaler because it's by far the best looking codec for livetv on my system. Every other codec displays too much combing on fast motion due to poor deinterlacing algorithms...

Thi is still a problem with the very latest releases of SVN 14797 and the DSCALER codec

Very poor a/v sync and picture freeze for upto a minute (sometimes never responds again) after skip.

Unfortunately the MVP/MVA codec is quite poor in comparrison with inacurate aspect ratios and quite poor pq.

I'd just like to add myself to the list of people who experience this bug.

The bug seems very similar to a problem that occurs on the old TV engine when the aspect ratio changes from 16:9 to 4:3 or vice versa.

Happy to attach logs if a developer gets onboard this thread.

I guess I have good news for you... if you switch to using the newer TS Reader Dscaler will play well - shifting back and forth doesnt work for me (Haven't investigated yet) but I can use dscaler to watch tv

Has anybody figured out how to solve this issue yet? I still experience it when watching recorded material, when watching normal timeshifted tv I can both skip and fast forward/rewind without problems.

I am ever so tired of codec problems in MP:
- Dscaler has this skip and forward/rewind problem.
- MPV has aspect ratio problems on 16:9
- NVidia has vertically black bars (depends on which svn build I'm running) and with NVidia I can't get a picture when fast forwarding/rewinding and the NVidia purevideo is giving me alot more audio/video lagging than DScaler.
- With Power DVD 5 I can't get a picture at all.

and thats about the options I have. Does anybody have a codec solution that just works! :-) No stutter, no black bars, able to rewind, able to skip and no lagging. With DScaler I can get almost there, but not all the way.

regards
Martin
