| Portal Member | Hi, I have noticed that new users of my htpc are finding the navigation a bit problematic. In home screen you select my tv. Most often the comments to me are that "why doesen't we see TV no but this screen with a small TV and several options". Could the be an option in MP configuration so that you could chose if the my TV from basichome should start TV in fullscreen and if so could we find a good design to go the the other (the now default screen) screen with all options. Regards cul8er

| Portal Member | I don't know if there are many IP TV stations in other countries but here in Belgium a certain ISP offers 5 IP TV stations of very good quality. So my request whould be to integrate this into myTV to be able to record, timeshift (don't know if this is possible) and use the TVguide for IP channels. If you need more info, I will post some more ideas when I get home form work. Greetz; THDBASED |

| cul8er is basically correct however small/simple the featue request is. We don't need any breathtaking magic interface that all users first has to learn. I don't use TV in Mediaportal so maybe current design does all this but: When you enter TV mode it should be as when you switch on a normal TV-set, you get the last tuned channel directly in fullscreen mode. From there it should be easy to access teletext by one button click. By pressing the "i"/"info" button you get any available description of currently playing movie. Pressing "Back" moves you back into Mediaportal main menu. "Pause" button should start timeshift and freeze image, "play" will start from where it was paused and "stop" will end timeshifting and start showing live feed again. "Record" will start recording the current live feed BUT stop when EPG indicates new movie/show. And with one other button, for example the OK button, you get the channel list/EPG of the current bouquet and a simple meny that allows you to change bouquet (use the colored buttons). Arrow buttons is used to navigate EPG, Enter/Ok button changes to selected channel and record button adds a timer recording. A "menu" button could bring up a OSD where settings can be changed and etc (subtitle on/off and language, audio language, AC3 prefered, gamma, contrast, codecs, etc) If a Audio CD or DVD is inserted then should TV stop and autoplay of those start. Most users are used to set-top-boxes or plain TV-sets so the user interface/functionality should be a lot like those. So for example the EPG will be 2 button clicks away from Mediaportal main menu but current TV on last viewed channel only one button away. |

Country: | hi, i'm not a designer but just whan to post here some idea with the common use of mytv and specially for our 'desperated housewives' who can't use MP without our help and simply don't whant to use it because never work (as they want). my fist idea with mytv is for people who don't have a tv card and just want tv guide. It should be nice to autodetect if tv card is not present or not configure and turn off tv fonctions and leave acces to tv guide without a error message saying 'no tv card found'. fullscreen tv when enter mytv should stay a option but a 'fullscreen button' may be usefull recording tv is impossible ! last week i try to record two episodes of my favorite tv serie and the result is that i miss the end of fist and miss the begining of second. why? because here in france, the new game of tv provider is to show immediatly the second episode without any commercial annoncements afer the end of fist episode (commercials are more longer in the middle of the tvshow). The recorder say me there was a schedule conflict (i don't know if it's realy normal : 1st record set to 21:00>21:45, 2nd record set to 21:45>22:30, by default pre-recording set to 1mn, post-recording set to 5mn and pre-post-recoding manualy set to 0 to avoid confict schedules (but not working)) There is no simple way to say : i want to record channel 1, start time 20:30, end time 23:00 no mather of the filename with 2 options : wakeup computer before recording, suspend after (for tv server on the same computer) Picture in Picture : i know is a sensible and difficult subject but my idea of PIP is different of many people : Of couse the fist fonction of PIP is to watch 2 diferents tv channels but it's a old concept. Best should be 2 'video' or 'audio' channels for exemple listen radio or music and watch control camera in the baby's bedroom. in fact my concept is more than a new tv plugin but to have channels, audio and video, and have the possibility to play with them (switching ,recording, timeshift,...) with a very simple and 'wivefriendly' interface because my wive not mather if the show she's watching comme from the onboard tuner or iptv, she's just want that it work and if it's not working: why. |

thats a flaw of the current one. ![]() generaly speaking you should check MyTV, because as far as i understand you thoughts, the current MyTV Plugin is working mostly like that.

| Portal Member | First of all: stability is EVERYTHING That said - I agree that My TV should be even more 'TV-like' than is already is - I back the suggestions already proposed, especially the part with starting in full-screen. Another thing I’m REALLY missing thou is a 'thin-client' for tv-waching! (It could be in style with DVBviewer) You should be able to have a resizable window open in ‘normal windows’ – or the TV as a ‘living wallpaper’, and still have some sort of channel-list. This would be nice for us multi-seat users who sometimes want the news on while surfing the net on the workstation in the next room. And as THDBASED points out, better integration with IP tv. Etc would be nice (but perhaps this is more on the ‘server side’? Finally PIP would be a nice feature (for us with multiple tuners) – but not nearly ‘must have’ Btw. I have to recommend Ruud Senden's KeyBoardInputPlugin (see MP Input plugins) - with this you can REALLY cuztomize you MP - eg. to make a given button on your remote have different functions depending on where in MP 'you are'. - sounds like you could use it Nicodemuz! (It would also be great if this was made part of the MP core!) /MadDuke |

Country: | I would like to see - more stability, thats crucial. Otherwise I will have a constant battle with my girlfriend about the bad usability etc, etc! ![]() - the possibility to quickly see at what times recordings are planned and on what channel. Now it just says for a certain TVprogram for example "everytime on every channel"... I'd like to see "Upcoming Recording: 01 august, 20.25h - 21.15h" - the possibility of clicking in the upper progress-bar to go to a specific part in the recording/tv program. Just like allmost all other mediaplayers have. - the possibility of using the upper controlls-bar with my mouse! I cant figure out if this is not possible at the moment or just has to be activated or something. I think an optionsbar like in Windows MCE is a good example. Thats always accessable when you move the mouse. - the weird flickering screen with the pause option, that pops up when your mouse gets outside the broadcast thats showing, really has to go in my opinion. It's horrible ![]() - the option to start TV full screen is ok, as long as I can turn it off! I hardly ever watch live tv, I record almost everything. Thats one of the great things about having a mediacenter, in my opinion. - The option to add webstreams to the channellist. In my case it would be really really great if I could, for example, add NASA-TV to my channels! - fast forwarding and fast rewind while still showing and hearing the programm, but on double/tripple/quad/etc speed. great idea, this subforum for input!! ![]() Last edited by kkendall; 2007-07-27 at 13:18. |

| Portal Tester | I certainly do not want TV to start in Fullscreen as for anything else than TV (Recordings, Guide, Teletext etc. etc.) I'd always need to turn off Live TV first. With a system like MP is today, how often do people really watch live TV? I can basically record everything I'd like to watch and see it without any commercials afterwards. This would in fact be so annoying to me that I'd prolly switch the application. Kind regards, Muldini |
