Maybe start full-screen TV on and have all menus as overlay style, like if you press the "full screen TV in background" button, but playing smoothly and working every time.

I have found people get used to the current interface but have problems with its probably 40% chance of not working at any particular time (especially after hibernating if you can manage to get it to hibernate in the first place)

I would also like the keys to be much more customisable, you should be able to use combinations (ctrl+t, alt+shift+w) where now you can just use simple key strokes only. I also want the key to be able to do useful things, so that my remote can be set to use its buttons as they should to go direct to my TV or My music.

maybe a button (keystroke) to just turn live TV on or off (regardless of where you are) would be good.

but mostly to not freeze and not crash.

Default New MP TV look

Hi everyone,

not sure if I am along the right line here but I recently was using a product on a friends computer called linuxmce, obviously running under linux but this was very good to use and very pleasing to look at. May be something along these lines would be worth looking at.

Thanks to all the developers for MP it's a great product.

Default If not SoftCAM then how?

Sorry to bring this up as I know there has been a lot of discussion, however, IF there is to be a redesign I'd like the following functionality to be considered - at present the only way I understand it could be designed in is with a softCAM and a card reader. However...

On pretty much ANY dual tuner PVR you can go and buy today the facility exists to record one encrypted stream while watching another encrypted stream and yet only have 1 CAM and 1 SmartCard.

Some machines (ie Humax PVRs) will allow an encrypted stream to be decoded "offline" into an unencrypted stream while others (like the Sky+ PVRs) simply use the card to decode the encrypted stream during playback.

At the moment in MediaPortal AFAIK there is no way short of using a softCAM which I appreciate from the discussion then makes people unhappy as regards other less acceptable things that can be done with softCAMs.

However it gets implemented the functionality is one which stops people like myself considering MediaPortal as anything other than a playback device since it lacks this functionality (If it doesn't happy to be corrected and I'll go out and buy the tuner cards immediately :-)

Cheers

A.

Exactly - we need a wife/girlfriend mode hah. One button to turn the tv on, one button to turn the tv off, channel up down, volume. That's it. It would save me the hassle of trying to teach people how to use my pvr every single time.
I've seen a design proposal that would present in small circles the symbol (or number) on the remote which could be displayed along with some help text at the bottom of the screen to BRIEFLY describe the action for each of the buttons. If this design proposal is implimented - it could be made as an option to only be displayed when requested or when a specific button is pressed. If you want me to describe what I am talking about I could generate a couple of screens but it will have to wait until tomorrow at the earliest - I have a tonne of work today (I shouldn't be on this forum in fact) which may push over into tomorrow.

I think know what you mean. Sort of like a diagram of the current remote control and what each button does?

Hi there,

it has already been requested earlier, i.e. in
http://forum.team-mediaportal.com/ab...0.html?t=20800

but since we are using multiple Tv-clients a feature that wakes up the tv-server when opening MyTV seems very useful.
Similar mechanism could be used in MyVideos or MyMusic if the respective repositories are located on sleeping remote hosts.

And here is some other idea I'm bearing some time now.
Was it possible to have user IDs and profiles within mediaportal? Like giving all the family members a PIN which prohibits the children from watching certain channels or TV at all. For the others different favorite channel groups could be displayed, Recordings might be assigned to the user who set up the recording or even recommendation for TV braodcasts based on interest could come up.
So what do you think?

Yeah I appreciate that but you have confused my point about functionality with a particular implementation methodology that I specifically point out in the post I understand has been discussed and closed.

The request is for legitimate functionality - my whole point is to have this legitimate functionality in Media Portal just as it is in pretty much every commercial PVR on the market.

The trick is for the Media Portal developers to find an implementation of the functionality that doesn't break the self imposed restrictions on software emulators. Clearly this IS possible to do with CAM/CI units as Humax et al do exactly that. So I think Media Portal should be able to do it with legitimate hardware CAM/CI combinations too.

How it is done is up to the clever people who understand how software talks to hardware... and I gave that up with AppleIIs and wire wrap boards a LONG time ago :-)

[PS thanks for moving to the right thread :-) ]
