Default MediaPortal TV Concept

Here is my initial idea for the Live Tv Screens+Home page. I would try and keep as much as possible in sub menus, typically when we use the tv functions we follow a certain patern:

We either go straight into recorded tv and watch something there, or we go into the tv guide and setup any recordings that might not be configored as a series link.

/so I would keep functions like search confined to the tv guide.

In the odd instances where we do find our selfs watching live tv, the mini guide is really usefull, so I have added this to the main page. Possibly it would need a scheduled button (an over sight on my part).

It would be useful on the schedule and recorded tv screens to have a harddrive freespace indicator. Also it would ber great to have a warning icon for shows that have not recorded properly, I often find shows that have recorded for 10 mins, and then stop for no apparent reason.

Anyway I will try to look at the other parts to this later...

VERY NICE

i think this is brilliant. Its not too obtrusive yet not uninformative. oh w8, this isnt showing tv behind. I thought it was... Its a brill skin, (available in some form?)

I think that, imagining the background image was tv, this could be a greater concept, I'd have the bottom bar on the tv as the osd. It has space for next playing and a seek bar. Is the image showing in the bottom left supposed to be live tv footage? I think it would be great if that could be an image related to the current thing you are watching be it a poster or thumbnail image found online or auto generated or something.

pressing the menu button, would bring the menu above and force the bottom bar to stay visible so that you are left with the screenshot you have but with live tv in background.

still hats off to you, you also inspired me the most from all of the posts ive read here

Default Recorded TV

One Feature, my wife always bugs me about, is being able to organise tv recordings into folders... fo example a folder for my two little girls, who will watch a program over and over again. (I realise I could easily move these programs to my vidoes, but it would be nice to have them neatly sorted in my tv.)

The complete TV background could easily be activated.. ie using the video background feature that allready exists within mediaportal.

This comes close to what I had in mind, so I like it

note sure how the navigation would work and I#d spare the program information for the live tv preview, maybe leave the logo.

This looks very nice. The folder idea is great too. That way each user could quickly find the shows that they wanted recorded. My wife currently has to scroll through programs I wanted and I have to do the same with her's. I like, though, how you still leave the option to view all recordings. Great idea!

Rich - I remember on one STB (DishTV) that allows for grouping of personal likes, that way the user can just go to their favorites. It should be along those lines?

I would suspect that creating/deleting those folders should be done under a protected (PIN) configurations area.

Default Recording all ready complete shows

How about the option to record shows that are already stored in your buffer (timeshifted stream). So for example, I could be half way through watching something, and decide that actually I would like to record it, that If I click record it would give me the option to record from the live point or from the beginning of the program, or even record all the programs containned within the time buffer. In this quick mockup... red means incomplete recording, green means comlete recording and blue mean program is still in progress.

howabout having automatically generated thumbnails above the time line to help identify positions within the stream?

Why not give rsparey a cart blanche on the functional and graphical design. He has proven to have designed the best interface and best graphical skin. In my opinion that is! I am a professional designer so I know a thing or two about user interfaces and graphics. Nothing about xml though ;-)
I especially like his straight forward approach. He is not putting all kind of 'gadgets' into one design but keeps focus on what's really important.

So Rsparey... keep up the brilliant work. And looking forward using your newest skin.

p.s. please, please keep MP simple and not to feature heavy. It should always be usable for non technical people too.
