In all honesty i hope no one listens to any of these ideas!!!

I use mythtv now and if these ideas get put into practice i'm gonna cry myself to sleep everynight out of jealousy!!

on a more serious note. I absolutely love the tv layout and i think it would be a massive loss to media portal if these concepts were over looked.

The layout of the mytv screen looks genius and exactly what i would aim for if i was starting to redesign the gui.

The tabs at the top of the container offer the user access to all the features one would need whilst keeping the current screen clutter free and may i say exceptionally pretty

The way i have been critiquing the concepts is to look at the pictures first, (remember a picture tells a thousand words!!) and if i understand the design without needing to read the text then i believe that the functionality would be intuitive and straight forward to use.

Have a quick look a this video for a new approach to user interaction.

rspray, your very talented and i appreciate your work even though i won't benefit from it!! keep up the good work

I also like the ideas posted here, I definitely like the idea of mp starting as mytv (as a setup option) to make it easy for everyone using it then just hit menu or back to get to all the good stuff. This thread has alot of great ideas and hope to see them in future releases.

Three things:

1. A lot of good stuff can be "borrowed" from the LinuxMCE. They have nice details included. If you haven't seen the video please click the link.

2. We must remember to look away from the visual appearance, and look at the functionality which leads me to number three.

3. Your gfx look really good Rsparey. Is this based on a skin?

Well, I actually watch live TV almost all the time, using MP to pause and record something I like.. I do set up recordings from time to time but that's not the only usage of MP for me.. I guess there are other people like me who just like to have TV on for sound and for something to go on.. So, it would be nice to keep in mind that too, when one is designing new interface..

What I would like to ask the developers to put in is the ability to 'overlap' the recordings when they are following one another on the same channel. Currently you have to set up pre- and post-recording times (usually few minutes). So, when I want to record few different shows that follow each other on the same channel, I have to manually change pre- and post-recording times for each show, which gets annoying if there are 3-4 shows in a row and you are using only a remote.. It should not be difficult to just ignore those 'buffer' times for all the shows inside the lineup and just do pre-recording buffer for the first show and post-recording buffer for the last one.. Hope this makes sense.

Thanks for such great software, guys!

Though I respect what the developers of LinuxMCE have created, I just think it has too much of a gadget factor. I prefer my mediacenter simple. Using the remote is already not ideal, and the less I have to goto menus and options the better.

wow rsparey i really like your ideas. just wounding isn't this all possible to do right now? and cant the skin engine handle different designs? or do things need to be changed in code to do most of the new ideas? and if not will MP II be able to be changed to look really different based on what the designer wants to do?

i know xbmc doesn't have tv but check out the video has some cool design maybe will give u guys some ideas.

I LOVE these design ideas. I really like the navigational abilities that LinuxMCE provides. If MediaPortal could integrate more intuitive visual interface (like these designs) with the navigational intuitiveness of LinuxMCE, it would be unstoppable!!
