Default TV Client as main application

This concept is similar to the one that GetWell suggested. I have some ideas if my own.

Maybe there should be the main (home) screen with menu options:
Live TV
TV Guide
Recordings
MediaPortal
Settings

with option to automatically start LiveTV when entering TV Client.

I prefer that the rest of Home screen is customizable and that you can turn on/off additional information like weather, disk space, LiveTV preview window, recordings info etc.

This concept is good if somebody wants TV Client to operate as a standalone application. I mostly use my HTPC for watching TV, but I also want to listen to music, watch DVDs and everything else that MediaPortal offers.

This is my idea of TV Client, now with pictures. I do not hide that this is a mixture between BeyondTV and MediaPortal concepts.

I tried that concept is as simple as possible with good usability.

These pictures are only schematics since I am not so good at graphical design. If somebody likes this concept I will make an effort do develop this concept . Also help with graphical interface is welcome.

generaly speaking the "on now" section is a nice idea.

but which channels would it display if a user has 20+TVGroups and 500+ Channels?

That kind of user should probably turn this option off or there should be an option to mark favorite channels.

or (additionaly) the other way around. let the user define his favorite series and display the tv-channels where those are broadcasted the next time.

I had in mind that this kind of info is visible when TV Guide item is active (Upcoming recordings). This feature can be called "Upcoming shows" and there could be the list of shows that are scheduled for recording or just marked for viewing.

I updated the picture with this feature.

we are allready "counting" how often a channel gets tuned. maybe this value could then also be used for something like displaying "whats on now".

i am not sure if shows/series/movies are "counted" somewhere in the db atm..... would surely help for this idea

hi,

this could give an "intelligent" htpc, that informs u of upcoming show/series/movies of your interest (depending on how often a genre was seen)

reminds me of a epsiode of "king of queens" were spence got his new videorecorder that only recorded the shows spence would be interested in... think the vr thought spence was gay

I seems like an excellent idea!

But I must admit that I have only 10 channels available at home so someone who has a large number of channels should make suggestions in this area.

Isn't the on now already available? When you press the OK button on the remote while the tv screen is active you get a list of TV channels with active programs and underneath that you see what's next. You just press page down for the next list of channels (I think it's around 10).
