Default Wii Skin?

How hard would it be to design a Wii skin interface?
Nothing that is exact, but something similar. There have been attempts to hand program one, but they lack any flexibility whatsoever. I can't imagine it would be TOO difficult, but then I lack the skills and know how to even know where to start with it.

Anyways, just a thought.

Do you just mean the colors? Like the white/gray/blue? or do you mean something like the "channels" look, where every channel is a different part of MP - like TV, Music, Videos, etc.?

I was thinking the channels look, as well as the color scheme. But make it more PC oriented. As best I can understand it should be easy to replicate most of the options, once a channel is selected it would still have the options to go to the different views. The Wii already has the small icons and sorta list option, wing the others to make it fit it well with the design and I imagine it could be a rather popular choice. Especially if it get's mentioned at Wiili.org. We already would have way more functionality than the Wii OS clones have.

Could either of you grab some screenies of the Wii "channels look", I can't find any info anywhere, and I don't have a Wii. I'm interested to see the scheme/concept...

I'll link you to the clones I have seen, you may be able to remove all the graphics from them if you need to.

http://www.wiili.org/forum/new-wiifr...-06-t1447.html

http://www.wiili.org/forum/wii-os-beta-01-t1731.html

The problem with these is they are rather limited in functionality and each channel has to be hand programed.

Anyways, some things that may be nice would be even a slightly different (as in more Media Portal esque) scheme, but still be similar.
The move forward screen on the movies could be like half of when the Home key is pressed during a game. I'll try to get screenies and sketches of how I envision this.

Also, watching this video may help.

Anything I can do to help I'll do, just let me know.

Later,
Glenn

Well I can see the "channels" look and feel working for the basic home screen. The thing is, you would have to either limit it to just a few channels (features that come natively with MP), or you'd have to make a different basic home xml file for every configuration of plugins. And if you go with the first option, it will be pretty sparse. I am willing to help with photoshop/graphics stuff since I love the color scheme of the Wii, but I will be honest in saying I know absolute squat about the xml part.

I hope someone knows, I could look into it, but I have never skinned anything that didn't come with an idiot proof editor before, so this may or may not go well, but I have a lot of projects I am working on, so when I'll get the chance to look into this heavily I don't know.

As a curiosity, by editing the xml files, could I add various console emulators straight to the Home menu?

That would be amazing if I could, and I would really look at this more that I was planning too.
