| Hi all, sorry for such a basic quesion but i'm confues about how the Music section works in MP. I've changed the directory that MP look for music in. If i select Shares view, i get all the folders in my Music folder whch is good, but if i try to chane the view to artist, ot Album, nothing is found. I picked a folder at random from shares and assed it to a playlist. Everything from this folder now appears in genre or artist...but only that! I think it might be something about setting up the database with tags in the Music setup wizard, but that just seems to freeze halfway through scanning. Could anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thanks Rich |

Country: | Hi Rich Are you updating your library by running scan in the MediPortal Setup application? The Albums and other views will not work untill you have run a full scan. Regards GeoV |

| Thanks, I probably didn't make that very clear.... yes i've tried to run a full scan but at over 40gigs of music i think its having a bit of a problem and seems to lock up/crash before managing to complete. I understand that will be the resaon for my problem. I have left a scan going overnight but have not checked it yet, so hopefully that will have done the job. Thanks vry much for your help Rich |

Country: | Hi Rich I find it strange that it would take that long for you to run a scan, I've got 25gigs of music and my scan finish in under 3min. Which version of MediaPortal are you using? Regards Geo |

| OKay thats interesting to know. I'm running 2.2.0. The result of the overnight scan was that it had indeed locked and done nothing after the first 30 seconds or so. My system is not the best but should be up to it: an AMD xp 2700 with 512 RAM Thanks |

Country: | Hi Rich I've never used 2.2.0, I went derectly for the SVN versions. I really would recomend you try the SVN version because I remember it being mentioned somewhere that the a lot of tuning was done on the scan speed because of slow response. Also you get the benefit that many bugs have been fixed since 2.2.0 and most of the new skins and plug-ins support the SVN versions better. Perhaps you just have to much music for 2.2.0 Cheers Geo |
