Recreating Thumbnails - How?

This is more a stupid question than a problem, so please let me know if it belongs somewhere else.
Due to continuing cataloguing of my large MP3 library, I periodically delete and recreate the DB.
Since cataloguing can result in relocation of files or even whole directories, I usually clear the thumbnails as well.
Afterwards, MP seems very slow, and it takes days for the thumbnail collection to build back up again.
How does MP rebuild the thumbnails? What possibilities are there to influence this? Is there a way to explicitly trigger thumbnail regeneration?

Thumbnails are regenerated on database scans of selected shares in configuration.exe

Thanks for the response, but this doesn't correspond with my experience.
Which version are you referring to?
Is there an option in rescan files that I am overlooking?
I get thumbnails in my music views only some time after having displayed and/or scrooled throught the corresponding lists in the MP GUI.

Yes that's possible - in this case only your folder thumbs directory is empty / missing thumbs.
However as your album thumbs must have been still in place the cache hasn't been rebuild.

So the solution for your specific case would be:
1. rename the complete thumbs\music dir into e.g. thumbs\#music
2. open configuration.exe again
3. rescan the share.
