Cannot play any videos

Ive just had my first go at using Media portal after being a longtime user of MCE 2005. It looks neat, but on my machine I cannot play any videos. I dont think its a CODEC issue becuase the same files play when run in MCE. All that happens is it lists my movies in the videos section but when i press the play/select button on my MCE remote a little sound effect plays (as if to say error or something) and nothing happens!

I cleared the log, opened mediaportal and tried to play a movie and this is what it logged:

Are these files .MP4 or anything else not listed in MP setup\video's by any chance, as you will need to add the extension there to supported file types.

No, they are standard XVID's (AVI's). I have the latest XVID codec installed on the PC which was downloaded this week.

Does installing FFDShow Tryout (latest) allow you to play these files.
