Exclamation DVD playback issue.

Hi all !

I am having a wee bit of trouble in getting MP to actually play DVD's.
It's working fine i zoomplayer, mediaplayer 10, bsplayer etc. any other directshow based player except for MP

When I start to playback the DVD in MP the video part of the DVD is rendered in that small window (see attached jpg.)
The sound is working ok.
Also MP seems to unresponsive. So I have to kill it in order to regain control.

Using latest svn.
running a clean install of XP SP2
latest ATI catalyst drivers on a 9700 card.
nforce2 based mobo also with latest drivers.

Tried changing to other video codec too, no dice.
running nvidia purevideo DVD decoder.
ffdshow for audio.

In fact I tried every other setting in the DVD setup section of mp config.

Ideas ?

I'm having a very similar problem, though I get a black screen and no sound. I've tried all available codecs. Everything's fine with Windows Media Player, PowerDVD, etc. Any ideas?

I'm having same issues here. I cannot watch any DVDs. I'm using latest SVN build and have tried to use different video codecs with no luck. Any ideas for this?

Same thing here ... I have to close MP and to start Media Player to listen to a DVD inserted into the DVD-ROM Drive. When I mount a DVD image using DAEMON TOOL it's working though.

I think MP is trying to bypass the normal playback of the DVD and go directly to the ROOT MENU, but this could lead to problem, since not all variable in the player might not be set correctly, it's beter to let the DVD play as it should IMO or at least have an option to try to skip directly to the menu and if it doesn't work, reload the DVD using the normal loading.

Oh and by the way, generally trying to listen to a DVD make MP use 100% of the CPU and it's fastest to cold reboot than trying to close everything. I love that reset button!

Hi Pizzadan,

I've tried DVD43 - no change in this problem for me.

Thanks for the attempt though!

If any of you are using the "set maxium spin speed for audio cd, dvd playback" try and disable that and see if that helps.

Is this a MediaPortal setting, or a general hardware setting?

It's a setting in mediaportal setup utility, under general if I remeber correctly. The setting came with 0.2.3.0 RC1, but has probably been in SVN releases long time before that.

When I enable this setting my DVD playback started behaving like explained in the thread, so I disabled it again and DVD playback resumed normal function.
