Default MP4 files & Resume function

I have a large collection of .mp4 files. I noticed that the resume function does not work with that type of files, although it works with avi mpg etc.

When I changed the file extension to something else, for example to mv4 and added that extension to MediaPortal Setup -> Movies -> Movie Extensions, the resume function works perfectly.

Does anyone else can try this and confirm it?
Why is it necessary to do that, and there isn’t resume function support for .mp4 files directly?

Very interesting, what codec are you using for playback, ie FFDShow.

This always has been a bit of a bug, the way the various codecs handle mp4 files, would be nice to get them more supported within MP, as prefer the picture quality against .avi files.

will try your trick this afternoon and see if i can find any downside to changing the file extension name.

Regards

Yes, I'm using FFDshow.

Got a bit of a problem as in installed MP 0.2.3.0 and now cannot play .mp4, mv4 files, ok in WMP11, extensions are added in movies ok, just got to figure out what has happened, suspect it may be a Nero update i did.

Will get back on this one.

It sounds like an mp4 splitter problem. Probably nero splitter has a higher merit than anyone else in directshow filters. I use this one: http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...ease_id=400405

Hi Gix

Sorry for the delay getting back to you, but can confirm that renamed mp4 to mv4 files work perfectly for resume, ff\rewind and for timed steps as well.

Now not sure who is the culprit on this one, is it a limit of FFDShow, MP or Windows, I know they play fine in Nero Showtime, PowerDVD7, will not play in VLC.

Also just for information purposes, MCE does not recognise mv4 files, so do not change extension if you are a MCE user.

Regards

Hi PD,

It seems a Mediaportal problem to me. Can anyone from the developing team confirm that?

I do not use MCE, but if you would like to add a custom extension, read this: http://echerng.net/blog/2007/04/21/c...-media-center/

I hope this will help,
Regards.

Hi,
I can confirm this, if it's a MP problem or not I dunno yet

So far i have seen that the graph that MP uses it's the same for both mp4 & mv4, so seems like a MP bug because it handles them differently, but as said dunno yet.

Btw, the post her it's about the same problem..

Regards
Roy

Hi,
Some more information:
Seems like MP treats .mp4 as music
Code:
2007-06-20 23:44:35.542969 [Info.][MPMain]: g_Player.OnStarted() D:\MediaPortal Media\Filmer\Verdens.Villeste.Politivideoer.mp4 media:Music
& theres a error in tagreader:
Code:
2007-06-20 23:44:35.829084 [Info.][MPMain]: MP4Tag.Read caused an exception in file : atom has invalid size: 1572864 (443124034)
2007-06-20 23:44:35.830060 [Warn.][MPMain]: TagReader: D:\MediaPortal Media\Filmer\Verdens.Villeste.Politivideoer.mp4 does not contain valid tags. Using Filename as Title
So if you all had provided logs it could have been spotted earlier, do you all have this in your mediaportal.log btw?

Regards
Roy

Hi Roy,

Thanks for that! If you remove mp4 extension from MediaPortal Setup -> Music -> Music Extensions everything works perfectly with mp4 files.

Thanks again!
