Default Play latest DIVX codec causes problems

Okay I have some videos that were encoded with an older version of DIVX (or XVID) codec, and they play, and can be controlled fine. I can pause videos, and I can stop videos.

When I play a video that was encoded with the newest version of DIVX I completely loose control of the played video. The controls for the video will not work. No pausing, no stopping.

I need to ESC out all the way, then just do a hard shut down of MediaPortal.

I am using the latest stable version. Maybe I should try the latest trial build of MP instead? I appreciate any guidence.

I am also having problems with divx files. They play ok and stop but i can't skip and fast forward is really lumpy and slow (maybe slower than actually playing)!

There are many variations on mp4 files ie Divx\Xvid\Nero Digital etc. that is why recommend using FFDShow as default decoder for these files, instead of installing loads of codec packs that really do screw up and confuse the filter control side of windows.

First test is always does it play fine in WMP? If it doesnt it is most likely a Codec problem.

Also keep in mind that what you (dubstar) describe sounds alot like your system is overloaded with trying to decode. Maybe your trying to play back HD videos with your system not being up to the task? If that is the case you might try lowering some deblocking options in divx.

yes it was a codec problem. Using a new video card now, and everything is good.
