Default Understanding basic video concepts

Now that my dedicated HTPC is up and running, it's time for fine-tuning and I believe I need a better understanding of some basic video concepts and how they fit into MP.

1. How do I control which codec is used to play back xvid / divx content? Under Config -> Movies -> Movie player there are entries for MPEG2 and H.264, but what about xvid / divx? I must be missing something really fundamental...

2. GraphEdit... I have tried several times to "Connect to remote graph" with MP running in windowed mode with a video file playing, and there is never any "remote graph" to pick in the empty list that comes up. Is GraphEdit only for playing back live-TV? Or am I missing something else?

Thanks in advance for any support.

Those will be used if they are enabled for there video type as default under windows directshow filters, so no selection in MP needed.

Works here, which version of graphedit are you using, vista users need the current one.

Thanks Ray!
I'll look into how Windows decides which codec to use; google should be able to help there.

For GraphEdit, I tried two different versions:
- Something called GraphEditPlus (no version number)
- Directx9.0, build 021204

Now I strongly suspect I am using a too old version (I am on Vista), so you do you happen to have a link to the correct (latest) version, or otherwise maybe a tip on how to look for it, since google gives many results on "download graphedit".
