Hi cybrmage, i've made all the tests you asked me. Even with your new driver the controller doesn't work.
On the second log file you asked me i click on the keys "down", "up", "OK", "Vol-", "Mute" and finally "Ch+".

-Manfred-, i'm not using vista, i'm still using XP SP2. When MHC and MP is running, the display show the different information from MHC like OS version, CPU speed, User Logged etc. The display is not freezed on the last information displayed before MP start.

Thanks all for your help.

The logs show no data being sent by the device.... which means that it probably only returns data to the software when told to do so....

When I get a chance, I'll see if I can find any further information....

Ok... I found some more info on this display.... so here is another test driver for you...

Please try it (using the previous instructions... only "session two" is needed) and post some logs for me...

NOTE: the driver does NOT (yet) try to act on any remote commands... it just tries to monitor them (for now)...

Regards,
CybrMage

Any news for Vista users? Are those changes in SVN so we Vista users can check the source and compile it? Or do you have any plans to check this (or have a clue what may cause that irresponsiveness on Vista).

Highly appreciated that somebody is trying to help even not having this display!

My System

Default

Hello!

I am experiencing the syme problems - I am running XP 64 with the latest VL System drivers for XP 64 and MHC 3034. As for what HMC reports, the display is configured for COM3 and as the manual says it should be 44780 compatible. So I configured the external display plugin to access a 44780 compatible vfd on com port 3 - no effect at all. Same goes for "Joe Dalton's own 44780 driver" plus the fact, that I get a mega crash when trying to access the advanced settings :-)

I shall be very happy when I will be able to use my VFD at some time in the hopefully not so far future :-) Will follow this thread enthusiastically... ;-)

Greets,

Axel

Thumbs up

Xmas is almost over but here is a present for you - a working driver for this display! I'm using Vista 32b and works OK (64b should work also).

Compiled against latest SVN #16735 but you can try with any version of the MP. Instructions to take this into use are somewhere in this topic.

There is also source attached if someone could add this to SVN.

/m

Umm... correct me if i'm wrong... but doesn't this driver do exactly what the driver I posted 3 weeks ago does??? It drives the display... The remote will still note be functional....

The driver I provided already has the remote mapping coded into it... All that is needed is for someone to figure out how the remote buttons are reported by the device.... (I don't have this display, and the methods I tried do not work)... What is needed is for someone with this display to "snoop" on the serial traffic between MHC and the device with something like BusHound...

No, it didn't work on Vista. At least two of us couldn't get it to work. We also posted those symptoms here. I did this because we never got the answer for our questions. But maybe you can now check this version source against yours and make the adjustments accordingly. I'll be more than happy to use your driver if it works under Vista.
