My System

Default Green Button Starts MCE After Restart

Fairly often, if I restart, pressing the Green Button (well, the equivalent, since I use an MX-850 universal) will start up MCE (Vista 32 Ultimate,) instead of MP. I then have to go into the MP folder and reinstall MPTray.

Any idea of what might be causing this, or a possible solution?

Have you registered mptray so that it is always started on a reboot/restart?

This shows how to disable the vista mce services, using mmc (microsoft management console).

Thanks!

Argh, I see, it sounds like Vista keeps restoring the ehtray settings on restart.

I thought I had registered mptray, but it still didn't work. Then I realized that Ad-Aware kept blocking it on restart. Fixed that, but now when I press the Green Button it starts both MP and MCE (and if I try to cancel MCE right away, it crashes it all.) Even installed WinPatrol and disabled (and then removed) ehtray with it. Kept thinking it was still Ad-Aware causing the problem.

When I get back home I'll try banning MCE with MMC.

EDIT: Just did the MMC ban, and now everything works well.

Thanks again!

Once you call up MMC, go to the File Menu and select "Add/Remove Snap-In...."

Then select "group policy object editor."

Then follow the instructions which I am pasting here from the post linked above:
......
3. Open the Local computer policy
4. User config
5. Admin templates
6. Windows components
7. Windows Media Center
8. Do not allow Media center to run : Enable

Hope this helps. It works.

Question And with vista home premium

i agree with you on the following steps to disable MCE in vista pro but the group policy object doesn't exist in vista home so if someone could help me to disable or remove MCE or at least prevent the start button (green one) to launch both MCE and MP and just MP it would be nice.

Thanks for help
