i don't know, but thinking out loud:
have you set haali media splitter to autoload vsfilter?
then right click the green arrow icon in system tray to choose between subtitles?

To make my self clear...I can play the subs (srt) with mkv files "outside" MP.My problem is, for example: I play an mkv movie with MP that has english subtitles embedded and greek subs in srt...There is no opion to choose the greek subs in MP...

To do that, I use ffdshow as codec and activate subtitle function in ffdshow

I use a similar trick by using ffdshow as post processor. (For x264 I have CoreAVC as the decoder) I have configured ffdshow to only handle subtitles if the played file has a mkv extentsion and the resolution is high. This way ffdshow does the subtitles on hires mkv files and vobsub on all other files. It is a bit tricky because you need to avoid ffdshow and vobsub showing subs simultaneous. As a workaround this will do for now but I do find it odd that vobsub doesn't kick in on mkv files from MP. As said it seems to work fine outside MP.

I can't make it work with MP.You can adjust it outside MP but for some reason ffdshow doesn't play with mkv files in MP.

Hi!

I have the same Problem. Since its working outside of MP, I think its a MP problem.

WMP11
Haali Media Splitter
VSFilter (AutoLoad in Haali = yes)
PowerDVD8 Filters
MP 1.0RC1

I tested a few things here is the outcome:
WMP11
======
MKV with embedded subs = VSFilter loads, subs Displayed
MKV with ext. subs (SRT) = VSFilter loads, subs Displayed
MKV with embedded subs+ext. subs (SRT) = VSFilter loads, in VSFilter there are only embedded subs autoloaded. The SRT file can be manually added.

MP 1.0RC1 (windowed mode, with Taskbar showing for easier analysis)
========
MKV with embedded subs = VSFilter loads, subs Displayed
MKV with ext. subs (SRT) = VSFilter does not load, no subs Displayed or chooseable
MKV with embedded subs+ext. subs (SRT) = VSFilter loads, both Subs are autoloaded, only embedded subs Displayed and chooseable in MP. But in VSFilter Dialoge I can choose both

Whats also strange: When I open an MKV with embedded subs from MP, in the Combobox of VSFilter (language choose) stands "English". When I open the same File from WMP11, there stands "embedded subs".

Hope this helps a bit.

Regards

Hmm...I think so too.It would be fine to give the oporunity to handle subs as in an avi file.

To me subtitles doesn't work at all in .mkv movies

I have them with no problems on media player classic

Not even embebed subtitles work, (i.e. I have to download .avi animes instead of .mkv in order to play them in media portal

I'm using last version of media portal

I don't understand where you can change those options you're talking about in order to fix the problem

For now I just have MP launching Media Player Classic in full screen mode so that the .srt file is automatically displayed.

I don't understand why it isn't working with .mkv containers.

I'm using ffdshow for audio and video, so you'd think both MP and MPC would display the same thing, but I'm not super savy with what goes on with the rendering of the sub titles.

I'm just very thankful that the MP guys allow calling an external player. For me this problem is pretty much fixed to my satisfaction with this work around. I'll just use the MPC player until it's fixed in the MP player.
