Country: | Hi, I have just started using media portal as my HTPC main front end. I currently have a wired keyboard connected to the PC and I'm finding it pretty much fine to use. I would however like to get it running via remote control. I understand that MP is compatible with the Microsoft MCE remote control, does this mean that the whole of MP can be operated from only this remote control? I wouldnt need a keyboard at all?? I would be using it mainly for playing MP3's and watching movies (DVD / Encodes etc). I ask because I want to buy a logitech harmony 885 or maybe the RF model of this remote as I have a growing number of AV devices and the remotes are totally unmanagable now. Its quite an outlay however on a single remote control and I don't want to buy it and it not work and waste a chunk of cash! From my understanding in the harmony software you can select your various devices and it will mimic that devices remote control yes?? If so is it possible to select MCE as a device and the remote will map itself out as if it where a MCE remote and I can use it with MP? Will it have all the functions I need?? Thanks! EDIT: This is the remote I am looking to clone - http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=143741 - this is the one which will work well with MP yes? Will it automatically clone this or would I be safer buying this remote, and then manually learning the functions on it to the logitech harmony? Last edited by TheBatfink; 2007-06-11 at 21:53. | MP Donator ![]() | Yes it is. You will need a keyboard (might be via rdp) for setup, but once it´s set up, you can completely control it via remote. If you´re already into buying such an expensive remote, you might want to take a look at this thread : http://forum.team-mediaportal.com/mc...ugin-f165.html I use the standard mce remote (The one in your link - 12.- € ;-) ) and everything works fine - so once you have the harmony set up, there should be no problem. I don´t know whether it will clone automatically. I was always thinking about buying a harmony - please tell us about your experiences. Have fun mcbelly Last edited by mcbelly; 2007-06-11 at 22:09. Country: | Excellent. Thanks for the confirmation. I will certainly let you know how I get on. In the meantime if anyone is using this remote with MP please let me know how you find it and what if anything you had to do to tweak it to suit! Thanks. |
