Default MCE remote problems

Hi,

I bought a mce remote. I had to install drivers for the remote. But the problem is that only the arrow buttons and powerbutton are working. For the rest, nothing works. I installed the rollup 2, but no difference. I searched this forum, but all suggestions dit not work.

2 questions:

In the mediaportal setup i have ticked the mce remote and extended logging. Where can i find these logfiles, and what is the name of the file.

Has anyone suggestions to get my mce remote work, or are there some types of mce remotes that don't work

I hope you can help me

Log Files are in:
C:\Program Files\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\logs
(or something similar)

I can't say why the other buttons aren't working for you, but you could try the replacement driver with the replacement plugin if the microsoft driver is giving you trouble. MCE Replacement Plugin 1.0.2.0 (New!)

Hope that helps,

What driver did you install? I ask as XP Pro & MCE both have the drivers installed automagically. Maybe you got a bad copy?

FYI. I have 4 MCE remotes and they all just 'worked' by pluggin them in, except the one PC running XP Home. I just had to install the driver (2 files) and it worked great too. If you send me your email address, I can email the 2 files to you.

Alternatively, maybe your remote is faulty?

Good luck,

Nick Name.

I tested the remote also on a machine where I have windows MCE. In MCE the remote is working perfect. I also installed MP on that machine, no problem with the installation of the remote, but the same problems. (also with latest SVN) So the remote is not the problem.

I did not change anything in MP, so default setting for the MCE remote.

I saw that there are different mce remotes. I have the one included in the Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150 MCE-Kit .

So the only things which is working on this remote are the windows functions, but no functions from MP.

Any ideas, or is this type of mce remote not working at all??

If this is a MCE remote, you will find the ehome receiver in Device manager\usb controllers.

Also under keyboards there will be references to 3 ehome keyboards.

If none of those there it is not a genuine remote and may have to be configured as such.

I just checked the 'mighty google' and found tis information http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/produ...150mcekit.html
I noticed that the Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150 MCE kit has a remote that looks similar to a Microsoft remote but it does not appear to have the eHome Receiver?

Ronaldus, does the remote have Microsoft written on it anywhere? If not, you may need to extract the driver files from your MCE install and use them in your XP install as I doubt the Microsoft MCE Remote drivers will work for a Hauppauge MCE remote. What has probably happened is that Hauppauge have drivers built-in to MCE.

Good luck,

Nick Name.

They do work for Hauppauge MCE remotes. Like they do for HP, Toshiba, ...

Don't mix up "MCE Kit" with "Retail Kit". The retail kits have a Hauppauge remote which has nothing to do with MCE. The MCE Kit pack comes with an MCE clone. No Microsoft printed on them either. The MCE Kit also uses an ehome receiver, the retail pack uses an Hauppauge proprietary bud.

Both work with MP. The MCE Kit remote using "MCE remote", the bulky one using "Hauppauge remote".

Thanks for the answers.

@ Paranoid Delusion If this is a MCE remote, you will find the ehome receiver in Device manager\usb controllers. Also under keyboards there will be references to 3 ehome keyboards.

There are ehome receiver listed in usb controllers and keyboard.

@Nickname Ronaldus, does the remote have Microsoft written on it anywhere?

There is no microsoft written on the remote.

The strang thing is: that on my second pc I have mce installed and mediaportal. The remote works in MCE, but not in MP. So i think it is something in MP.

I don not know if it is possible to post a photo on this forum, so you can also see this remote.

Is it also possible to learn MP the commands of my remote?

Ronaldus

I don't know as I don't have this remote. You may have luck using something like LIRC with it?

Good luck,

See the manual of your Hauppauge card. If it can be reprogrammed, it would be mentioned there. But I doubt it.
