Default Off-brand Remote. Play, pause,ff, etc. not working!!!

Bottom line... Im a newbie, you guys are awesome... Enlighten me

So, I buy this off-brand MCE remote on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWN:IT&ih=007

I figured, with all generic devices are, that I may run into a slight problem here or there. IT turns out, the play, pause, ff, rw, etc. buttons dont function. I know, I know, this thread has already been done over several times. Im just simply wondering if it makes a difference that I cant even find a brand for this thing? Also, if the button mapping thing has anything to do with it, would anyone mind giving me the 2 sentence rundown or some links for "self-motivated research" !!! YOUR THE BEST!!! (Whoever you are)

Hi there,
I bought a 3rd party "MCE" Remote and USB IR receiver from eBay and have the same problems.
Were you able to find a solution or can anyone help?

The remote is "working" ok - I can use directional arrows, but play, pause, stop, ... are not working.

Any ideas anyone? I have a Harmony 655 which I plan to teach the commands from this remote. I also tried downloading the MCE commands to the Harmony, but the Receiver doesn't like them.

Is there anyway MP can "learn" the commands from the eBay remote & receiver (as they seem to be different from the standard MCE ones)?

Thanks

Some more info :
- Running on Win XP PRO
- MP v 0.2.3

Testing the remote more - its able to pause in Media Player but not Media Portal

Any ways to map IR to keyboard keys? ie could I use something like Girder to help bridge the gap here?

Thanks

Default Intelliremote

You should be able to use Intelliremote to do whatever you want with your remote. Control any application especially media applications like MP and Winamp etc. You can check out the trial version for yourself...

Or see if IRServerSuite will do it for you.

Keeping it in house.

I also have an off brand, but in this case I believe it to be this one:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Yaocoo-Lapto.../dp/B000P6PX88

I tried installed the Ehome rollup 2, as well as some drivers from the forum in a zip file. Still no play/pause (or anything besides arrows, #'s, and a couple of others).

I put on IR Server Suite, and tried various remote types, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. i couldn't find a way to tell what signals are being sent, so that I could mess with the mappings in IR Server Suite/MP. Any ideas?

Technicaly, since this is an MCE compatible remote, there actually shouldn't be any variance in the signal codes, so I'm not sure at all what's going on The doc says something about "mouse mode switch" but there are no "switches" and no software included. I wonder if this is something that must be disabled somewhere.

Hi,
For those of you using a MCE "clone" which doesn't work, open MP Configuration -> Remote & in MCE tab enable it & enable Extended logging close configuration, start MediaPortal use some of the buttons close MP & attach your MediaPortal.log to your post.

Regards
Roy

If you are using XP SP2 it should be recognised as ehome receiver, what does it show under device manager.

Try KB912024 from the MS website, i think this is the latest driver for MCE remotes (supports keyboard as well).

Thanks for the suggestions, I think I am getting closer to problem. I noticed that the receiver seems to show only as HID compliant mouse and keyboard devices, and there are no "unknown devices", so I'm thinking perhaps this doesn't use/function as an eHome device. I'll try to keep messing with it and get some logs. NOt sure how the company would say it is plug and play w/ MCE, but of course I don't have have MCE to test

I think mines a YaoCoo aswell - chinese company and virtually zero on the web in English - here is a translated page from their website : http://translate.google.com/translat...n%26safe%3Doff

Mine also just shows up as HID (nothing to do with eHome) and the USB receiver just seems to convert the IR into keypresses.

When I tried to download the MCE remote commands to my Logitech Harmony, none of the button presses were "read" by the IR receiver - it only blinks when buttons on the YaoCoo remote are pressed.

I've got a kind of solution working - by installing Girder and downloading the MediaPortal plugin, Ican map keypresses from the YaoCoo remote to actions in MediaPortal (which have a keypress associated with them) - seems to work for now.

No luck with IR Suite or Intelliremote as the device isn't being recognized as a remote.
