Choosing Music/artist by pressing first letter on keyboard/remote

I'll try to explain what I am searching for:

In Vista MCE, when in the music screen (ex view by artist), I can very fast choose an artist (like Pearl Jam) by pressing the P on the keyboard and scroll then to the correct artist. Using my remote, I just push button "7" (like with a cell phone, two times 7 for the Q, ...). Since I have a rather large Music Collection, using this, helped me choosing music very quickly.

In MediaPortal I can use the keyboard when doing a "global search", the remote just gives me "&" when pressing "1"

I've tried and searched, but cannot get it to work, perhaps the function is not implemented in MediaPortal.

Is there a way to get this working, or should I post this in "improvement suggestions?
