I have trouble when I try to author a dvd because my software complains that the vid bit rate is 15000 kbs and the standard says it should be 9.6 M How do I get around this?

That mean's nothing to me as to what program you are using, but most DVD authoring software (Roxio, Nero, Pinnacle) should re-encode with the correct bitrates anyway, prior to letting you burn to disk.

If above does not answer your question, try to be more specific about details.

You may need a mpeg2 requantization tool (But read on, cos you may not).

If you re-encode you lose a lot of quality (and heaps of time). But a requantization tool just drops out data to bring it down to size (this is how DVD Shrink works I believe).

Like this (I've used this one):

http://www.intercom.co.jp/english/transcoder/

or this:

http://www.sharewareconnection.com/s...equantizer.htm

I think some dvd authoring tools will do it too.

BUT, you should check the actual bitrate of the video ... because it may be that the file is marked as 15mbits but the mpeg is padded up from only 7 or 8. I've found that the digital tv in Australia is not actually 15mbits, and if you re-stamp the file with the correct bitrate (say 8mbits for example) you can burn it to DVD no problem.

Try these (I've used them too):

This one will patch the file so your dvd software thinks it fits the bitrate:

http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/svcdtool...tcher_v106.zip

Also, I've used ReMPEG for determining the correct bitrate, and I think ReStream does the same stuff.

Just go to www.doom9.org and take a look at the downloads section, and the guides section.

Good luck.
