Default How to decode multiple channels / FloppyDTV-C

Hi,

With the help of Frodo and some other users with the same problem I now have a working TV server with a FloppyDTV-C card and one client. Now, I want to go to the next level.

I assume everybody has read this article by Frodo on the front page:

"Watch/Record multiple channels with a single dvb tv card?
Monday, 29 January 2007
Update: this feature is now placed in svn
The most requested feature for the tvserver is to be able to watch/record multiple tv channels at the same time with just 1 tv card
Impossible?... no, the upcoming tvserver does it!
So what does this mean ?
You can watch/record multiple tv/radio channels at the same time with just 1 (DVB/ATSC) tv card. Offcourse those channels should be located on the same transponder and are free-to-air (not encrypted)
Another great benefit from this is that we finally get perfect back-2-back recordings!
What about Encrypted channels ?
If the channels are encrypted and you have a FireDTV/FloppyDTV device then you are lucky since multi channel descrambling is supported for the FireDTV/FloppyDTV devices.
However there is a limit on the number of simultanous channels you can descramble at the same time This limit depends soley on the CAM you use. Some CAMs can only descramble 1 channel at the time while others can descramble 2-16 channels at the same time.
Frodo "

So, I should by in luck, because I have a FloppyDTV-C card. I've tried to enable this, but I can't seem to get it working. MP keeps saying that when I'm recording / watching more than 1 channel that

"Unable to start timeshifting / no free card available"

But in the TV Server I have entered that the CAM should decode up to 5 channels simultaniously.

Can anybody point me in the right direction? I don't think it's a bug, i think that I'm missing something here... Has anybody got this feature operational and how did you accomplish this?

Greetings, Dave

Got as many suggestions as you have logs posted
But no really logs of your tvserver will help us tell whats going on. Are the channels on the same transponder (frequency)? The tuner can ony tune one frequency at a time. most frequencies carry many (maybe 10?) channels. The logs should tell you though what the problem is.

First of all, thanks for trying to help me out.

Well, here are the logs from the tv server. I hope you can find anything usefull. This is what I did. First I started recording on the channel I was watching (Record Now) and after that, I tried to switch to another channel.

Ok yeah it looks like the 2 chnnels you are trying to receive at the same time are on different transponders. go into tvserver setup and find 2 channels that have the same frequency in their tuning details and then try to watch them both at the same time. see if that works.

What Mr. Goodwin said, I have the same setup (with the FireDTV) and you can only watch two channels if they are no the same stream. Most digital broadcast stations use 10 streams or so. The 10 streams contain 100 TV channels and some digital radio channels.

You have to know which channels are on the same stream. The FireDTV/FloppyDTV should be able to render all channels on one stream at the same time.

For you reference, I use Multikabel in the Netherlands and I can watch multiple channels at the same time.
Please look here for an overview of the Multikabel streams. Your provider should have a similar list somewhere on their website.

Hi drullens and RutgerDB,

Which CAM do you use to make multiple channels possible (in the same stream)?

Chucky69, I use two FloppyDTV tuners. Each of them has an Alphacrypt CAM in it.

Last week I recorded 4 shows concurrently using two tuners....LOL

Eyz,

Some info on the CAM's. If you use Casema, Caiway, Multikabel or just every cable operator wich is using Irdeto2 for scrambling the pay-channels. Use the normal Alphacrypt, NOT the light version. The light version doesnt work with Irdeto2
