You need to deinterlace TV3 as it is interlaced, try wikipedia for a brief run thru on what interlacing is all about.

Note TV3 is 1080i not p hence the requirement to deinterlace.

The PDVD8 trial is exactly that a trial and is therefore free, although the program stops being free after a period of time i believe that the codec does not time out. So simply install the free trial, select the codec within MP and you're off. I wouldnt pay for it if i were you as this is really only a test to see if it solves your problems.

For me PDVD8 works well that may not be the case for you as it could be someting else that is causing your problem, at this stage we are simply troubleshooting.

Hi 5Hundred,

Thanks for the advice.

I ended up tonight downloading PDVD8 and it does seem to be better.

Can you please let me know all the settings you have in PDVD8 and Media Centre to get the quality you have as I feel it can still be improved.

I had a look at some of the de-interlacing options and they were greyed out. Did Cyberlink send to you via E-Mail a product key to use in the trial?

Also, you mention that after the trial is finished, you can simplycontinue to use the codec - is that correct? So do you just leave PDVD8 sitting there?

Thanks again for the advice.

Hi there, i haven't really done anything to PDVD8 other than ensure hardware acceleration is enabled, this is selected under the standard MP codec configuration screen. The deinterlacing should be left as automatic as that should be the best option, however make sure in MP configuration for TV that the deinterlacing is set to none. From previous experience you dont want MP forcing a deinterlacing setting but rather just let the codec do its job.

I never got an email with a product key and i use the codec despite the trial being finished, i never actually use the PDVD8 program so i guess if i dont bother it, then it wont bother me! :-)

I'm interested what improvement are you seeking, both the 720p and 1080i channels look great here, perhaps there is another problem?

I've also had problems with TV3 and TVOne and stuttering or tearing video. I was using PowerDVD, but also tried CoreAVC to no avail. This has been a problem since I upgraded to RC3, RC2 was fine. I'm now happy to say though that the latest version of CoreAVC seems to fix it. I have downloaded the 14 day trial version of V1.8.5.0 and it works great. Smooth video, no tearing. Maybe give the 14 day trial a go, or if you've bought it try upgrading. I know V1.6.5.0 simply didn't work for me at all.

Hi,

I'm on version 1.8.5, but I'm on RC4, not 3. This was when the issue began.

Would you mind screenshoting your CoreAVC Configuration. I would be keen to see if you have de-interlacing working.

Thanks

Graham

Hi All,

I finally managed to get CoreAVC working OK by selecting the "Hardware" option in the CoreAVC configuration with "Best" de-interlacing option in Media Portal.

The screen still seems to blurr a bit on 1080i channels e.g. TV3, but it's reasonable.

I found PDVD8 completely stuttered at times - not sure why that happened.

Anyway, I now have TV and I'm going to focus on other issues - my main one being that not all me recordings are working. I have a forum on this, so any help would be appreciated.

Regards

Graham
