DVB-[anything] can be used for HD or SD equally. Same deal with MPEG 2 and h.264 (MPEG 2 is not only for SD, and h.264 is not only for HD).
A lot of people seem to associate DVB-S2 and HD. I guess that's because DVB-S2 was an enabler for the first HD broadcasts. In reality there's no technical connection. Even DVB-S can be used for HD. Nobody in their right mind would do that unless they had to, because it would be far more costly to broadcast that way. But it could be done.

I had the dishes checked recently and they are apparently aligned ok - set top freeview boxes all work fine. Also the blockiness was always a line, not the whole screen (wasn't an issue when i had vista, just since W7. TT say their drivers are fine, even though they haven't been updated for years - 2010). That has resolved with the new card, but channels i did get OK, now I don't.

Okay... though I note that just because a set top box works doesn't mean a PC tuner will work. They're completely different beasts.

Only one line? That's very unusual!
I'm inclined to believe TT with regard to the drivers. I have a 3200 myself.
Did you consider the possibility that this was a codec problem?

That has resolved with the new card, but channels i did get OK, now I don't.

Again, you can't assume that one PC tuner is equivalent to another. They have different sensitivities, and therefore different minimum requirements for signal strength and quality.

I set up a Ram Disk to use for time shifting but it doesn't work. It's a Fat32 drive of 4GB. Does MP not work with Fat32? I see 2 time shift files appear and then disappear and MP client says can't read the buffer. I use the default settings of 512MB files so not bigger than fat32 limit. I don't see anything obvious in the logs. Here is a paste of TVService.log. Let me know if you prefer some other log.

Sorry, I forgot I was using UNC paths in MP client for recording and time shifting and hadn't altered the MP client to access the RAM Disk. My bad (as the Americans say).

Any idea why the TV Server doesn't grab EPG from Sky HD channels, like the new Prime HD channel or Sky Sport HD channels. The checkbox is ticked in the TV EPG Grabber area. What I've been doing for a couple of years is use EPG Collector to grab the SD channel EPG and in the XML TV plugin apply the SD EPG to the HD channels. It's a pain to edit all that every time have to Refresh in the XMLTV plugin. I haven't done that yet for Prime HD and it's been set up for 2 full days and there is "No data available".

Is the epg collector supposed to work with sky hd channels. Are they dvb-t?

They are all satellite channels. I believe EPG Collector can read the EPG from the HD channels, but I'm using the SD channels EPG currently, I'm not sure why. All I did get from TV Server for Prime HD was the current and next program occasionally appear, but not the full week. Perhaps Sky doesn''t output the EPG for their HD channels to save bandwidth and the sky boxes read the EPG from the matching SD channel. I'm surprised I can't find any info on that. I didn't think I should need to be using EPG Collector at all.

You sound just like me, doing a Skylake build have parts and prices nutted out, just waiting for the prices to come down a bit more and am still not decided on case yet.

Are you aware that the post you quoted is from 2005, and that Brocklander hasn't logged into the forum for more than 5 years?
