Local Trailers: How do I get that to work (1 Viewer)

Hi,

Hopefully this is a beginner question: I can't get the "Trailer light" to switch from Red to Green
I am testing MP1.4 with MyFilms 6.0.3.2921

I have these 2 files in my "Movies" Folder:

World War Z (tt0816711).mkv
World War Z (tt0816711) trailer.mkv

When I'm in AMC Updater, and press the 2- Scan Movie Files button, I get the encouraging update:
Status: Results: 1 trailer files found

But that's it. Not matter where I put the trailer file or what else I tweak, I don't get a Green button for Trailer when looking a the film's details page

Also if I navigate to Search trailer (local) I just get an endless spinning disc icon

Any pointers appreciated.

Hi Norsak, the search trailer local is the right place - if you get an endless spinning wait symbol, that sounds like an exception happened - please post your config and log files, that should show what happens.

Ok, assuming that Myfilms.log is where we need to look I have following in mine, after Search trailer (local) and the endless spinning disc icon

    Code:

Not sure if that is helpful

Please provide full logs, including error.log - the parts from MF log you've copied are not relevant for trailer registration. Search in your logs for "trailerlocal" - I just started it and when running properly, there'll be several lines per movie record.

If I'm reading that right its having issues with the System Volume Information folder.
I think windows creates that folder at the root of every partition
On my rig I have lots of drives, the Movie drives are mounted to empty folders such as C:\Movies\M1 ...M9
So the search path in my config will contain System Volume Information folders

Yes, that's confirmed. System Volume Information folder was my particular issue
I moved everything including the search path to a subfolder, and now I get a green light for trailers.

    A questions about Trailers implementation:
First I thought the Green light indicates that MyFilms is aware which trailer belongs to which film.
But I actually get a Green light on every film now, even though I only have 3 local trailers, is that a bug?

Still I am confident that MyFilms has some DB relationship between Movies files and Trailer files.
Let's say a started watching the trailer for Epic but didn't finish.
Back on the main screen I browse to the icon for Epic, F9 - "Play Trailer", then I will get a "Resume film from last..." dialog referencing the specific local trailer file of that film. If I browse to World War Z, F9 - "Play Trailer" I don't get that dialog.

So MyFilms knows which Trailer goes with which Movie
Yet I do not appear to be able to simply launch the specific trailer for the movie I'm looking at (either when browsing or when on the details screen). Instead I always end up on a menu showing me all available trailers. Right now I only have 3, but that won't scale.

There is also the odd behavior if you previously started to watch the trailer: When you press Play Trailer second time round, it pops up the "Resume Film from last....." dialog.
But even if you press Yes, the next dialog is the "...here are all your trailers" dialog box.

May I request a keyboard short-cut to play the Film specific local trailer (or a random Film-specific local trailer if there are several) both from the browse screen and the details screen? No resume dialog/ no questions, just T = play trailer or make a dull error sound if there isn't one.

Yes, that is causing the issue, as the hidden systemfolder is only expected on root drive, but due to the mounting here also existing in your subdirectories.
Mounting movie directories instead of the root drive should solve the issue.
Note: I did the same as you for recorded TV and TVplugin has the exact same issue - that's why I don't mount root drives anymore...

Fine - see above. If you mount folders instead of the root drive, that issue should not occor. You can also add an issue to tracker if you want, then I can check, if that could be solved in code.

    A questions about Trailers implementation:
First I thought the Green light indicates that MyFilms is aware which trailer belongs to which film.

Not knowing all details about your setup, I think it is specific to your setup.
Afaik, all users testing and using trailers so far had their movies in subdirectories - the search and register trailer stuff assumes, that trailers in teh current (movie) dirctory and it's subdirectories belong to the inspected movie itself.
Those trailers get registered to that movie record - which will turn the trailer light to "green" (locally available and registered to that movie).
It seems to me, you have all movies in one (or multiple) directories - this leads to the situation, that all of the movies in that directory will find all trailers in that directory - and register it to themselves.
To solve that, MF would need to know, is you're using a setup having all movies in one directory - and thus only match on media name pattern.
This is currently not possible, as MyFilms does not have that setting (only AMCU for importing).
So for now, the only way to get it work as it is intended is to have each movie in it's own directory. That'll result in all trailers in that directory and sub dirs (also multiple) will only get registered to THAT movie.
You can put an issue to the tracker for support trailer registration for setups with all movies in one directory.
@Dadeo: This current limitation should be added to wiki I think...
Still I am confident that MyFilms has some DB relationship between Movies files and Trailer files.
Yes, as said: If working as intended, a trailer media file (or multiple) are registered to the specific movie record. In standard setup, the movie is in "source" field - trailers in "sourcetrailer" field.

Yes, it should - though it seems, due to your setup you got multiple trailers registered to multiple movies - which is of course not intended.

Yet I do not appear to be able to simply launch the specific trailer for the movie I'm looking at (either when browsing or when on the details screen). Instead I always end up on a menu showing me all available trailers. Right now I only have 3, but that won't scale.
    Reason see above.
There is also the odd behavior if you previously started to watch the trailer: When you press Play Trailer second time round, it pops up the "Resume Film from last....." dialog.
This is due to the fact, trailers are played same way as movies - so they also store the point where stopped.
This is done intensionally, as I think it has more advantages than disadvantages - if ppl register e.g. specials, interviews, or other stuff with longer play time, tht allows resuming it. For simple trailers, it is normally no disadvantages, as a trailer will play til the end - thus not storing any resume data.
If that should be changed, that should be discussed separately, so we can get some more opinions from other users.

But even if you press Yes, the next dialog is the "...here are all your trailers" dialog box.
iirc, that dialog "normally" only appears, if you have multiple trailers available to let you choose (which happens in your case due to unintended registration of multiple trailers to all movies of the directory).

May I request a keyboard short-cut to play the Film specific local trailer (or a random Film-specific local trailer if there are several) both from the browse screen and the details screen? No resume dialog/ no questions, just T = play trailer or make a dull error sound if there isn't one.
For playing random trailers, there is already a new feature in 6.0.3 in test mode, that even allows looping that.
Re Shortcut: No problem, we already have a shortcut for movie start, it is simple to add one for movie start - please add an issue to tracker, can easily be done. Just to be sure: "t" is not needed for anything else in MP in that context? (I am remote user, never use keyboard...)

Yes, however, first I would like to clarify/confirm to make sure I understand the limitation perfectly. ;)

I moved everything including the search path to a subfolder
Can you post your new "PathStorage" and "PathStorageTrailer" folders? I noticed originally you had set the Extended Trailer Search Path (aka PathStorageTrailer in MyFilms.xml) on Trailers tab in Setup to "C:\Movies\M9\Trailer\" i.e. a Trailer subfolder of your movies subfolder, though in your first post you said the movie and trailers for World War Z were in the same folder. I am just wondering what would happen if you set the Extended Trailer Search Path to the same as your movie folder? I'm not sure that will work ;) because IIUC Guzzi is saying the issue is that MF does not match your trailers to your movies because the movies are all in one folder. But AFAIK no one has ever tried that, and it is an easy test, now that you have solved the issue with the System Volume Information folder. I have no problem matching trailers which are all stored in a single folder (Extended Trailer Search Path) - but ofc my movies are all stored in separate folders.

Indeed, that should work - as the matching from trailers in the "extended path" is only done by name matching - while the matching of trailers in the movie folder is done by keyword matching. Moving all trailers into an extended trailer path thus should work - but having all movies AND trailers in the same directory would not work (that is: would register all trailers from that directory to all movies in that directory)
