just found this:

Note that American DSS,DirecTV etc. systems are NOT DVB-compliant & won't work in Europe.I do know of an attempt by someone in the USA to modify a European Nokia digital receiver to decode DigiiCypher2 transmissions -but,at the time of writing, this has not been successful.

So I don't think you can use the floppy dtv

:(
I'm beginnning to be saddened.
So is the status of this that HD support for US satellite users is just not going to happen? I HATE the idea of decoding an already digitized program just to re-encode it.

So if i subscribe to the direcTV service, get the STBs they send me, and put the CAM's into floppyDTV's, they'll work?

In the netherlands 1 (cable) provider locks the stb's serial with the cam's so it will prolly never work, you could have the same issue in the US with some providers, might want to check into that...

this is all such a joke :-/
US DRM I mean. I really have no intention of stealing, etc...just want to watch stuff that I paid for. Guess I'm stuck with mythTV / firewire or sageTV until we can get firewire for media portal figured out...
