Ok so i decided to come across from Plex to MP this weekend on my newly built HTPC
Win8.1, 64 bit.
Firstly I wan to thank all the people who have supported me here.
I didn't think it would be this hard or take this long to get it up and running.
As of Sunday night here is my status

TV .
Able to watch and record TV. All dual tuner functions appear to be working.
The function to color the tv programs by Genre doesn't work.
When i switch my TV/HTPC off by the remote power button the HTPC is set to go to sleep
On startup/resume the TV does not return to the same channel but only returns to the EPG.
If I use the MP internal exit control to shut it down or restart i am return to the same TV channel

Video (on external HD)
Although I have set my video folder on the MP config tool there are no video files when i go through the Video option in MP home screen. The internal MP settings tab, which i think is just an internal way of configuring the same values shows that the folder for my videos is not set. The scan of my videos for Fanart which i did through the config tool took about an hour. Most titles did not match. I performed this 3 times.

TV Series (on external HD)
I installed the MP tv series plug in to help sort my TV shows. Looked promising and took a while to find most of the information in the TV database. ON entering MP and the "TV Series " tab I found it completely empty.

On top of this I had the "blue screen of death" 3 times. Windows event logs show Media Portal.exe to have caused the crashes.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled MP about 6 times so far under various uninstall options.

I"m committed to have MP as my HTPC media software but why does it have to be so hard to setup.

If any one can point me in the right direction to resolve my remaining issues i would be very thankful.

Erick

You should map your EPG genres to Mp genres in TV Server Configuration

Personally, I don't use internal Videos plugin. I prefer Moving Pictures plugin which is more simple and beatufil way to watch films.
But in your case any screenshots and logs will be helpful

Post logs in thread you've started previously, please

Mediaportal always was highly configurable software so maybe you could try other options if you're not ready to invest some time in tuning MP.

    I agree with Edalex.
Note that the wiki is meant to be able to help with questions like this... and I know there are threads on the forums too (forum has a search function). We absolutely don't mind you asking as many questions as you need, but please use the other resources too. It'll be faster and/or save time for you and us. :)

Did you see my post in your other thread?

Do you understand the difference between shares and database view?
    http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_MEDIAPORTAL_1/14_Using_MediaPortal/01_Basics/Views

If using shares view, this should work... and therefore you should post log files.
If using database view, make sure you've run an import... and if you've done that, you should post log files.

The internal MP settings tab, which i think is just an internal way of configuring the same values shows that the folder for my videos is not set.
Not sure why that would be, unless you've had MP and MP config open at the same time.

    The scan of my videos...
Pass. I have no idea about Fanart or TV Series.

On top of this I had the "blue screen of death" 3 times. Windows event logs show Media Portal.exe to have caused the crashes.
MP can't directly cause a BSOD. Only kernel-level components such as drivers can do that.
If you want us to look into this:
    1. Please post your log files (watchdog option 3).
    2. Describe the circumstances of the BSODs.
There's nothing we can do without that information.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled MP about 6 times so far under various uninstall options.
For what it's worth: I really don't understand why people do this. It's almost never constructive, because it won't solve problems and it makes it harder to help [because the situation is always changing].
It's okay to get stuck. Personally I'd much prefer you stop and ask for help than "going nuclear" and blowing away the installation.

    Regards,
    mm

Thank all for the reply. I will go through all suggestions and any issues will post screen shots.

Does Moving Pictures plugin handle TV series. All screen shots seem to indicate movies only. I'm after something that will retrieve the seaon , storyline, fanart metadata etc.

Moving Pictures is only for movies, MP-TVSeries is only for tv series.

ok.. fixed my EPG categories and installed TVseries.

Please attach the full zip file.
By itself, the application event log only tells me that the crash was due to an access violation exception (that's code c0000005). The faulting module name is often a clue as to exactly where/what the problem is, but in this case it doesn't help. ntdll.dll is an OS component. Clearly the OS is not responsible for the crash... so we need to look at the corresponding debug-level MediaPortal log to see what MediaPortal thought it was doing at the time of the crash.

It looks like a power/HDMI issue.

From what I can see in the log files, you're sitting there watching TV (ABC):
    [2015-05-18 22:57:40,342] [Log ] [MPMain ] [INFO ] - TVHome.ViewChannelAndCheck(): View channel=ABC
    [2015-05-18 22:57:41,081] [Log ] [MPMain ] [INFO ] - succeeded:confused:ucceeded TvControl.VirtualCard
    [2015-05-18 22:57:41,084] [Log ] [MPMain ] [INFO ] - tvhome:startplay

After this you jump around the screens a bit, and tweak some settings.

You turn off the TV... or put the PC into away mode - I can't tell which:
[2015-05-18 22:59:54,463] [Log ] [MPMain ] [INFO ] - Main: The computer is entering away mode
    [2015-05-18 22:59:54,795] [Log ] [MPMain ] [DEBUG] - Main: WM_POWERBROADCAST (PBT_POWERSETTINGCHANGE)
[2015-05-18 22:59:54,796] [Log ] [MPMain ] [INFO ] - Main: The user activity timeout has elapsed with no interaction from the user
    [2015-05-18 22:59:54,797] [Log ] [MPMain ] [DEBUG] - Main: WM_POWERBROADCAST (PBT_POWERSETTINGCHANGE)
    [2015-05-18 22:59:54,798] [Log ] [MPMain ] [INFO ] - Main: The display is off

Shortly after this, TV is stopped automatically:
    [2015-05-18 23:00:02,735] [Log ] [MPMain ] [INFO ] - Main: Audio Renderer Intel(R) Display Audio removed
    [2015-05-18 23:00:02,735] [Log ] [MPMain ] [DEBUG] - g_Player.doStop() keepTimeShifting = False keepExclusiveModeOn = False

    TV is turned on again:
    [2015-05-18 23:00:03,056] [Log ] [MPMain ] [INFO ] - Main: The display is on

The crash seems to happen just as the PC comes out of away mode:
[2015-05-18 23:00:25,095] [Log ] [MPMain ] [INFO ] - Main: The computer is exiting away mode
    [2015-05-18 23:00:25,095] [Log ] [MPMain ] [DEBUG] - Main: WM_POWERBROADCAST (PBT_POWERSETTINGCHANGE)
[2015-05-18 23:00:25,110] [Log ] [MPMain ] [INFO ] - Main: User is providing input to the session

Does the crash still happen if you disable skin sound effects?

It appears you built or rebuilt this machine back in Jan of this year.
Right from the start there are driver and hard disk issues. Most noteably in System Events
"1/04/2015 5:29:46 AM";"disk";"(0)";"Warning";"The IO operation at logical block address for Disk 1 (PDO name: \Device\0000002f) was retried.";"2147745945"

While these errors for Disk 1 continue from that date, it gets real bad:
"2/04/2015 7:27:39 PM";"disk";"(0)";"Warning";"The IO operation at logical block address 08 for Disk 1 (PDO name: \Device\00000031) was retried.";"2147745945"

    "2/04/2015 9:50:52 PM";"disk";"(0)";"Error";"The device, \Device\Harddisk1\DR1, has a bad block.";"3221487623"

On the 17th of this month:
    "17/05/2015 5:02:23 PM";"disk";"(0)";"Warning";"An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk3\DR3 during a paging operation.";"2147745843"
    Right thru

Plus throughout the System Events are:

Most recent in the Application Events, it seems you have a driver problem and AVG and Windows Defender are not liking each other.
