| Notes for testing ------------------- We are definitely getting close to RC1 now. There have been many changes in recent weeks, and there is no doubt that some of them will have 'broken' existing features. We need your help in identifying and fixing these issues. We have a couple of specific areas where a few reports have been made. 1. Crashes on channel change ---------------------------------- The symptom seems to be that upon trying to change channel, mediaportal stops working, and a window is displayed to tell you this! This problem is not easy to reproduce, but we need to know if this happens in single-seat, multi-seat or both. If it only happens in single-seat, we need logs from the client and server. It would be nice if we can find reliable steps which someone on the team can use to reproduce this. 2. Crashes on skip steps (TV) --------------------------------- There have been many improvements in this code in recent weeks, but unfortunately there are a few isolated reports of mediaportal crashing. The common factor here is possibly skip steps close to the live point. The comments above are all relevant here as well. Logs from client and server please. Please could other developers add to this list as appropriate? Best wishes, Mark PS. Once again, a plea to keep this thread clean. If something that was a problem before is now fixed, we don't really need it posting here. However, if it is not fixed, please do post (with clean logs from this SVN - maybe something in the logs will be different). We don't need you to tell us that this is the best SVN ever - we certainly hope it is! And we don't need reports without logs - these will just be deleted. |

| MP Donator ![]() | Tested this new SVN. Unfortunately, the crash with less signal is builtin: http://forum.team-mediaportal.com/573215-post102.html If someone could point me how to debug the TsReader.ax, then I would really like to share the results (memory dumps). But here (Debugging/MemoryDump - MediaPortal Manual Documentation) attached DLLs are mentioned, which are not attached and the TsReader.ax debug version won't run any .ts file. The crash with skip steps is not reproducable for me (singleseat) My system: Atom 330 ION 2GB RAM Newest NVIDIA drivers SD, HD and sound codecs MPV/MPC/MPA Windows 7 Connected via DVI to a 50Hz TV will upload logs as soon, as I can collect them. (but it crashes the same way like with last SVN, nothing in logs) EDIT: If a channel with less signal is succesfully tuned, no crash appears. Just the picture and the sound is very annoying. The crash only happens, if you are tuning to a channel with less signal. It's like TsReader can't get the beginning of the buffer. And not every channel change to the "problematic" channel is crashing. Sometimes it works, but the mentioned annyoing video and sound is there. Zapping around is then crashing this channel with less signal. Hope you understand my english. Short story: not every channel change to a less signal channel is crashing. What are the circumstances of this crash? Now you mention 'less signal' - do you mean you have a poor quality signal? The exact circumstances for the crash will help us. Quote:
Oh, and please don't assume there is nothing in the logs, and thanks for posting them. Best wishes, Mark

Of course, i mean poor quality signal. (can tell you, that with 1.0.2 this didn't happen, MP told me, that it can't tune this channel and if I want to go back to the last one) Could you mail me these needed Debug DLLs? Last edited by OnkelChris; 2010-02-06 at 15:47..

Each TV card reports signal strength and signal quality. Unfortunately, there is no 'standard' way of reporting this information. I guess ideally, mediaportal would be able to check your signal strength and not try to tune to a channel that might not display correctly. However, this is simply not possible. The only thing mediaportal can do is try to play the stream. In an ideal world, mediaportal would not crash if it receives 'garbage' data. I am sure that if there is anything the team can do to resolve this situation, they will. How does the software that came with your TV card cope with this situation? Mark

| MP Donator ![]() | Of course I know, that the team will go into this, if reproducable and able to solve. (also I don't want my "personal" problem to be solved, but I think this could happen on more systems)Tried this with WinTv delivered with Hauppauge. No problem so far. I uploaded a sample file where the crash is reproducable. Everytime at the same position MP crashes (as seen on the screenshots). Unfortunately, tourettes couldn't reproduce this with my sample. On my system, only MP is crashing - WMP and other are playing the file without crashing or hanging. (Uploaded it to rapidshare with a 10 time download limit; so if the limit is reached, please let me know, then I will upload it once more) EDIT: And with this sample, also MP 1.0.2 is crashing on my system. EDIT2: Sample file: http://rapidshare.com/files/345339519/buffer.zip.html Last edited by OnkelChris; 2010-02-06 at 16:26.. |
