Default Can't watch DVDs on USB external Hard Disk

Up to now I'm using Windows Media Center to watch all my DVDs already ripped on Hard disk. Now I've installed MediaPortal 0.2.3 with Xface skin (really cool!!!). I haven't any trouble playing DVDs from DVD reader but I can't play ripped DVDs on Hard drive. I've tried different codecs CyberLink PDVD7, Nvidia PureVideo, D-Scaler, etc... and always happens the same, blank screen on time 0:00, then you can Pause or Exit without any problems. Other type of files like divx avi can be played perfect.

Any idea ?

Thanks.

It is VIDEO_TS complete folder uncrypted, means ripped. So files are .ifo and .vob

Those ripped DVDs are played fine in PowerDVD and Windows Media Center.

Have you included the "VIDEO_TS.VOB" and "VIDEO_TS.IFO" or do you just have the "VTS_01_0.IFO" and "VTS_01_xx.VOB" files ?

Hi,

did you add a "AUDIO_TS" folder too?
Playback of ripped DVDs works on my machine.

Flip.

Yes Audio_ts folder is present as well.

Could be a Windows Vista issue or Nero program ?

Well, finally after a lot of test I've found that the problem just appears when movie folders are placed on my external USB hard drive. Just moving some movies to internal hard disk and adding this new folders to My Movies it works.

So, What happens with external USB drives ?

Thanks

What is the structure of the DVD folder / files?

Have a look at this thread.

Default Same issue

I have the same problem dvd rips are fine in shres from server or hard drive but will not play from a local usb drive.

If I copy movie across to hard drive and update the databse to point to the new location it plays fine.

I run Vista 32

Default DVD on USB

Hi, same problem!

I use MP 0.2.3, Vista Business.
I have several USB discs and 2 internal SATA.
Since I use Vista I can't watch DVDs (Folder with video_ts and audio_ts subfolder) that are on the USB discs.
If I copy a folder to the internal disc it works. If I use an external Player it works.
If I use my DVD drive to play the DVD it works...
With XP there were no problems using that structure with different discs.
But also if I just put one disc oder just one folder in MP setting as movie location it does not work.
It doesn't matter if any or which disc I set as standard in movie config.

If I want to start a DVD I get a black screen it seems that the DVD starts, the USB disc is used for a second (then quiet), but then there is nothing but the blac screen, no sound, no error warning. I have to press stop.
(Pressing any button, so skipping or something does not change anything)

All this is just true for DVDs!! Avis, MPG and so on are no problem! (Neither on USB, nor on SATA)
Any config propositions?

I reinstalled MP two times, but it didn't change anything.
I think it is because of the USB connection, but as I said it worked perfectly with XP for month. Any ideas?

Thanks a lot
