Default Encoding with Divx

Was wondering if its possible to use the divx codec with MediaPortal instead of the default codecs, to encode off the tv? I dont see under the settings button the listing of the divx codec

I have the latest Divx Codec installed.

check out this thread

Works when using ffmpeg, I use this plugin to transcode dvr-ms files to xvid.

Windows Movie Maker can.

Sorry to sound a bit thick, but are you asking to encode a recording to Divx AFTER it's finished.

Codec settings are for PLAYBACK\VIEWING only and have no effect on the recordings.

No I ment to encode to Divx while its recording. Divx is such a smaller file size and better quality. wouldnt nor even tried to encode the same file twice, because the results would be horrible. I just didnt understand why MP only has Hauppenage codecs listed and the ones that with MP. Not anything else that is installed on the Pc to use for encoding

Then your answer is no, you cannot record directly to Divx\Xvid\MP4 from a TVStream.

Theoretically it is possible with a powerful enough system, but most HTPC are not that high spec.

Even from what i have read and seen advertised, lots of manufacturers state about recording to Divx etc, but this is not on the FLY, its done by a external application supplied for conversion afterwards.

Ok...so what app do I use to edit the files made by MP recordings? I dont have or cant find windows media movie recorder on this pc. I guess I can run Dr Divx or divx convert to change them over before burning to Disc. I do have a stand alone dvd player that can play almost any avi or mpeg file. So the third step of converting to Vobs is elimated.

BTW....in case it helps. This is not a Media center PC. This is a custom pc built by me. I got into recording off the tv since I drive truck for a living and miss a lot of my CSI episodes. Also plan on using MP to record off of vcr if I can figure out how to get it to select the s-video as input.

The transcoder plugin I mentioned above will achieve this, once in xvid format you can use vdubmod or avidemux to edit out the ads.
