Hello
Now I have done a little fix to search by folders instead. As always with home compiled stuff everything goes away when an update to a newer svn is done but nevertheless...

This is tested with svn after 17044, 080116, and is not guaranteed to work with prior svn:s.

Replace the existing WindowPlugin.dll with this one: WindowPlugin.dll.

1. Here the default search on IMDB is done by foldername instead of the filename.
2. The filestackingdialog is also removed when trying to watch movies with several files (cd1. cd2...).

These changes are configurable if you edit MediaPortal.xml and add the following lines under section "movies":
(If you dont add the lines, the default behaviour is like above)

yes

no

yes

yes

...

Try it and see if you like it. If there is some important updates in svn I can hopefully recompile a new version if requested.
I will try to get it in by the devs.

Have fun...
and I would be glad to get a hint on the result

Tack som fan! But.... I tried with a SVN from 16/11/2007 but that didn't work. So I downloaded and installed a fresh stable .2.3.0, that didn't work, so I took todays SVN (01-20-2008--05-05-Rev17106) but no luck there either. So I tried 17044 and lo and behold it STILL doesn't work. It's exactly like before.

The content of the folder '28.Weeks.Later.2007.DVDRip.XviD-LPD' comes up as 28wl.xvid-lpd which, of course, is the filename.

What am I doing wrong?

it seems to work only when you right click a directory and selec "IMDB" - not scan.

Is there any way to make it simply parse all my directories? or do I need to do this for each one.

Hi guys.
Nice to see someone else like this fix.

Sorry for the inconvenience.
I didnt realize at first that there were different commands to IMDB when scanning via "IMDB" and "scan". i'll look into that and be back when/if I got the solution.

OK, now I've looked into it.
The collecting of movie data is done by the database plugin included in MP, and there are many components in MP which are dependent on this.

So a fix for all scanning possibilities means a change of about 27 core files (almost like a new svn update) not just the WindowPlugin.dll, but I think it is doable so I might do an attempt if someone is interested in this.
Otherwise, the IMDB option in MP is the only way to do this right now.

I'm not sure I know what you guys mean with "IMDB not scan". Could anyone please elaborate on that a little?

OK, it's like this,
If you press F3 when you have a listitem selected, MP will search IMDB for the file in the directory (or folder with the fix). The same goes with the contextmenu and the choice "IMDB".

If you on the other hand choose "scan" from the contextmenu, MP will search IMDB with every media file in the direcory and subdirectory.

This last alternative involves several core components, but the first choice affects only the changed dll-file.
Hope that this makes things a bit more clear.

It's an inconvenience that it won't scan a whole directory, but it's not the end of the world. At least there's functionality to do one at a time! thank you for your hard work.

I'm sorry but I still don't get it. I know what this part means (because that's how I use it now);

If I have "listitem selected"? Where exactly?

lowcrust, the basic jist is that the "scan" functionality, the ability to SCAN an entire directory for every IMDB entry does not work with this fix. However, if you select "IMDB", which is a different option other than scan, on an item it'll request IMDB info ONLY for the item (directory or file) that is selected.
