Question upconvert dvds to HD

I've searched the forums and didn't find what I was looking for (maybe I was searching the wrong terms).

I use MediaPortal as a DVD "jukebox" to watch my DVDs using daemon tools. I recently purchased a 1080p HDTV and was wondering if there was a way to upconvert the DVDs to a higher resolution like many current DVD players claim to do? I'm hoping that there is plugin in developement or some tool built in to MP that would allow that. I haven't done much expirementing on my current MP setup because I don't want to muck it up too much. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks

Unfortunately there is no "easy" answer. The best way to upscale DVDs is using ffdshow and a good place to start your learning process is here. FFdshow Walkthrough: Basic, Intermediate, Advanced Configurations. - AVS Forum

Gain some knowledge there first, then I would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Not to hi-jack your thread, but I have a few question.

I looked through the avsforums a little bit ( its 1900+ post long). I was wondering if there a simple way without installing all the different software? I dont see the point of installing 5 different apps.

I am looking for a way to upconvert dvds using mediaportal and ffdshow only, does anyone have a walk through or know how to, Maybe I could make a walkthrough if someone is willing to give me some directions.

I think the topicstarter is meaning instant upscaling provided by Mediaplayer such as some DVD-players do. No conversion, just let Mediaplayer do the upscaling while your watching.

Is this possible?

isn't MP already scaling fullscreen content to the display resolution? I mean, it 'downscales' HD content to my 800X600, doesn't it work the other way?

A simple overview:

1. Anything played on your PC will be upscaled by your graphics card to the resolution you run at. No need to do anything, it all happens automagically.

2. If you want superior upscaling then you will need to use something like ffdshow.

I use ffdshow and get some very impressive results using only the "upscale" setting. I have it set to use Lanacross upscaling to 1080p.

I am not at my PC now, so not 100% sure.

I know that I have the upscale section enabled, using Lanacross.

My system specs are available by clicking "My System"

<-------------- HERE

By default ffdshow does some pretty great upscaling!
