Default Video thumbnails

Hi,

when browsing my video folder (containing .avi files) in windows explorer I can see nice little thumbnails showing the first frame from the movie. How can I make MP show me the same thumbnail when using the shares view and icons or big icons in MP? All I get now for all my video files is the default picture with that thing used before a scene is shot, don't know what it's called in english

Press F3 on the video, and it will download more information + coverart from the internet.
You can also add the file to the database by scanning your entire collection.
See this for more information (go to Movie Database section).

Thank you for the reply. But I don't really need/want to use the database, it's just short movie clips that I've made with my digital kamera from different trips I've made. But since they all have names like mvi_0123.avi it would be great if I could see a thumbnail so I knew which clip it is. Just like I can in windows explorer. Is there a way to do that? If not, is there a way to associate a picture to a specific movie so I can maybe make a thumbnail myself from the movie?

I've attached two pictures to make it clearer what I mean.

Trying placing thumbs in this directory:
c:\Program Files\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\Thumbs\Videos\Title\
with the name of the video file and jpg extension.

Or a jpg thumbnail with the same name as the movie file in the location of the movie file.
e.g E:\Movies\mvi_0123.jpg in same location as E:\Movies\mvi_0123.avi

Thank you! That worked.

But just to be sure, there is no way to make MP show the first frame from a video file like windows explorer and MCE does? If not I'll post it under feature request since it's a really nice feature I think in MCE.

That would be a nice feature for after the freeze...

It was discussed already.. Most of 1st frames are black, so it's no use for you.
And to grab any actually usable frame.. It's harder to define what is "usable frame", right?

And even then with all different video formats we'd need to add .NET3 dependencies to MP for a decent solution. This won't happen before the release.

I have about a hundred of these home made clips and none have a black first frame. But maybe regular downloaded movies have that.
