| What are the best options for subtitles? Am I right in thinking that the only way to have subtitles in an AVI container is to burn them into the video stream? MKV allows seperate subtitle streams but then this leaves the question of idx/sub or srt subtitles. It appeared the best option was to encode with X264 into an MKV container as this gave me chapters, AC3 audio, decent video compression and then add in an idx/sub subtitle stream so that you don't come across any issues with the OCR in srt subtitles. First problem is I can't get subtitles to display in MP (They work in Zoomplayer). The subtitles section in the movie config has font setting, does this mean that MP only accepts srt subtitles? Second (bigger) problem is lack of DXVA when subtitles are there (read lots of threads about this). So question is what is the best solution if I want subtitles? I am guessing that encoding with XVid and buring subtitles in to video steam would work and give relatively low CPU usage but is not ideal. Would encoding the video as Xvid and adding in an idx/sub subtitle stream into an MKV container actually work in MP?? |

Country: | I think the haali splitter will handle subs within an .avi (obviously with vsfilter as well) the subtitles in an .mkv definitely works well. I do this all the time. If you would like to re-encode or just remux try staxrip its really easy to use and it kicks ass. basically if the subtitles are embedded and directvobsub/vsfilter supports it then you should be right.

Country: | actually if you want external subs to work you need to add vsfilter to the post processing filters list in the movies section of the config program

| I think have found the answer but I can only get subtitles to work at the expense of hardware acceleration. Might check whether adding vsfilter in works (but I have a feeling this will cause the hardware acceleration to stop) |
