Default How do I set up TV Schedule?

Hello,

I am a bit new to this, and from looking through forum entries cannot understand how to set up my media portatl tv guide.

Currently the TV guide contains no data, but I would like to set it up for London/UK and am not sure how to do this.

1. What is the difference between XMLTV and EPG?

2. How would I set up my TV guide.

3. On the media portal website, what are all the pluggins and extensions for under the EPG/TV page. I see a lot of downloads for things like "My TV guide" and WebEPG beta"

I am not a programmer, and am a little proficient at this type of stuff, just want to try and get continually updated tv information and am not sure how to do it.

Kind Regards

Steve

Hello,

Thanks for your reply, I have managed to set up a lot from your advice.

One thing I am having trouble with is the WebEPG Grabber. I have manged to configure WebEPG, and instead of manually downloading EPG data I thought I would use the scheduled downloading.

However, I cannot work out how to set up the webEPG grabber pluggin. I know there is a web page linked to the one you mentioned, but how do I get to the stage where I can disable the option. I have downloaded the webEPG grabber pluggin, but am unsure about how to use/apply it.

I appreicate any advice you can offer.

Steve

You don't have to download anything to grab TV guide data. Once you have configured WebEPG you just have to start WebEPG.exe in the Media Portal directory and the TV guide data is downloaded for you. You can schedule to run WebEPG.exe automatically in Windows taskscheduler.
I think that the disadvantage of using the EPG Grabber plugin to schedule grabbing of TV guide data is that it only works when MediaPortal is running.
