Setup steps to help with WebEPG startup, configuration, and how to customize the www_imdb_com.xml grabber file for your location. This file needs to be customized for your local MediaPortal channels and your local channels in the imdb.com TV listings. 1. Start the "TV Server Configuration" program and enable WebEPG in "plugins" The "WebEPG Wiki Entry" shows how to enable and use the WebEPG configuration tool. http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_MEDIAPORTAL_1/15_Customization/001_TV-Server/Sections/12_Plugins/WebEPG For a XP system the US www_imdb_com.xml grabber files is in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal TV Server\WebEPG\grabbers\US for vista/windows7 see the following to find the correct TV Server location http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_MEDIAPORTAL_1/19_Reference/Concepts/Folders_and_Files You need to customize the www_imdb_com with your local tv stations. I make a private copy www_imdb_myzipcode.xml in the same folder and modify this file. I use a private copy to keep the original file in case there is a problem. 3. You need one channel entry in the imdb_com file for each station you want to grab, for example Channel id="KTVU-HD" is channel ID MediaPortal found when it scanned channels siteId="KTVUDT" is the channel in the IMDB listing (left column in listing) To get a list of your local "Channel ID"s enable the WebEPG plugin, goto "WebEPG->TV Mappings", select a "Group" (Favorites etc) and press "Import". The "EPG Name" column is the "Channel id". You can also goto the "import/export" screen, set the check box for "TV Groups" and export the info to a xml file to get a list of "Channel ids" in your channel groups. 4. Open a web browser for www.imdb.com and go to TV listings. Enter your zipcode and select a cable provider. Make sure you press "go" when you set a zipcode and select a cable provider. I use over the air antenna and used Comcast for my zipcode. This should give a listing for your local TV stations. The channels in the left column are the "siteId" you need for the grabber file. If you click on 1 channel it will show a 1 day TV listing for the channel with the data that WebEPG uses. The browser address bar will show the channel you selected. This is the siteID info "KTVUDT" you need for the grabber file. For example http://www.imdb.com/tvgrid/2012-05-24/KTVUDT/ You may need to search through the imdb TV listing to find all the channels. For example one of the local PBS sub-channels is "WORLD" and the imdb channel is "KQEDDT3". When you are done adding channels open the private www_imdb_com file with a web browser to check/fix any typos. I use Firefox to check for grabber xml errors. 5. Start the "TV Server Configuration" program. In the "WebEPG->TV Mappings" window I set my "Favorites" in group, press "import" to load the channels, then press "AutoMap" to map the channels. When this is done the "grabber" column shows the private www_imdb_com file for all the channels. You can also do manual mapping, see wiki for more info. If you find mapping problems and add/fix "channel entries" in the grabber file you may need to exit/restart the "TV Server Configuration" program to get the new channels loaded. Follow the wiki to setup "WebEPG->General" to write EPG info into the TV Server Database and set the checkbox for "Delete old programs before import (Recommended!)". Press "Save" to save the setup and press "Grab Now!" to start the grabber. With 10 channels and 14 days it takes 3-5 minutes to grab the data and downloads around 8 MB of data. The TV Server "tv.log" file should show WebEPG Channel/Program entries. Close the "TV Server Configuration" program, start MediaPortal, and review the TV Guide to confirm WebEPG loaded the data. It may take a couple of iterations to get the correct WebEPG setup. 6. To get daily EPG updates, either use "WebEPG->Schedule" if your TV server is always powered on or enable the PowerScheduler pluggin and follow the "PowerScheduler wiki" to wakeup the server and run WebEPG to grab EPG updates. http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_MEDIAPORTAL_1/141_Configuration/TV-Server_Configuration/13_Plugins/Power_Scheduler The PowerScheduler++ plugin is another option http://www.team-mediaportal.com/extensions/other/powerscheduler?lang=en http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/index.php?title=1_MEDIAPORTAL_1/17_Extensions/3_Plugins/TV-Server_Plugins/PowerScheduler%2B%2B 7. When the setup is done, stop and restart the TV Server by going to "TV Server Configuration -> Manual Control" so the server restarts with all the setup changes. Also make a backup copy of your imdb_com file in another folder so you do not loose your updates if you do a MediaPortal update.
