Hello Everybody,
i'd like to update the status of this behavior. I did a complete uninstall of mediaportal 1.8 and a new install of 1.9 and i still got the same issue:

everything else is great about MediaPortal!

yes, that's what I did - install .NET 4 and then let Windows update everything.
As you can see in the screenshot attached, I have every version available. So the installer/deploy tool is free to choose, whatever version it needs.
