Since my problem persists, even after total new installation of all aMPdroid components and re-configuration, I ask you...
many thanks oxan, I have reinstated the TV database from scratch and now the number of episodes shown in Ampdroid matches up exactly with what I actually have. also discovered that my SSD has been randomly disappearing from BIOS - this may be contributing to some of my troubles.
