So, I bough the Geforce GT520 and MP Avalon Skin runs a lot smoother now. Still not quiet as nice as my newer Intel Pentium G850 HTPC, but a lot smoother than with the Geforce 8300 IGP. So for around $50, this was definitely a very nice upgrade. Next step will be replacing the old 80GB System-HDD with a SSD...
Cheers

As far as I know, the GPU in your i3-2120 and the G620 are almost identical (G620 doesn't have QuickSync, but that's not a big deal), so if you are happy with 1080i on the 2120 then the G620 should be fine in theory.

I've used one of these FM transmitters for years (mainly to distribute streaming radio): http://www.edmdesign.com/ - the 100mW LED model (including the case) which is no longer available. I'm in Sydney (Aus) & we have a very full FM band (plus I live on a hill & get all the weak signals), so it's been hard to find a free frequency. I...

Hi there,
As I mentioned above, I have just been through all this, getting things re-encoded....playing with LAV (and ffdshow as a PP), and now just using ffdshow.
There are a few features in ffdshow (that LAV doesnt do) that I need.
Once you get your head around it, its quite simple in what needs to be done.
I didnt think...

If you're not going to use TV, on the computer you designate as your "server" you don't need to install Media Portal on it at all. Just set up some shares and you're done.
On the 'clients' you install Media Portal and use your network shares coming off the server computer for your media folders.
For just file serving your file...

Hi, and welcome :)
Just about any modern CPU and GFX is "good enough" for a HTPC w/MP, IMO. (Your's is way overkill and I guess it is a bit noisy).
Regarding Comcast and US TV in general, I'm afraid I'm clueless :sorry:

Thanks for reminding me how PCI-E actually works :D.
It could be temperature although it doesn't seem to be related to how hard the card is working (GPU utilization is very low on SD content but it still drops out) so that leaves a knackered card.
:thx:

Hi JJayzon,
Re the clients, they are pretty easy to set up. I use the Zotac ZBoxes and stream over a wired network using EOP "Homeplugs". I think there are some forum members who stream to about six or more clients

Anything with less then 2 disks is NOT A NAS full stop no discussions
they are 0.0% chance of guarding against hardware theft or fire damage .. or device failure..
some do allow some "rescue" options. More later in this post

Hi elsmandino
There's really no substitute for a proper signal meter. A set top box and small TV is probably the next best thing. As far as software goes, is there something wrong with the manual control section of TV Server configuration? Relative comparison (eg. quality on a particular tuner changes from 70% to 90%) are okay, but...
