General questions about HTPC Hardware go in here.
With some DVD's I sometimes get the same....try one of the following: 1) Skip through the ZOOM options, see if one of them shows a picture. 2) Pause, and un-pause... 3) FFW, REW the DVD.... 4) Try a different Codec...I know PowerDVD sometimes cause problems.

Hello, I’m looking to setting up a satellite setup but I have some questions. I am living in the Netherlands, by the way. 1. What exactly do I need for a satellite setup? My list as I came up to it is like this: a dish, coax-cables, LNB’s to capture the signal, a DiSeQSC (or something) switch and a smartcard offered by Canal...

I happen to have an extra HDD to try Vista on, so I installed it into my HTPC and gave it a whirl. I've run the Vista betas on it before, but until the build right before RC 1, it never supported any of my hardware. Then suddenly, that release was made public, and EVERYTHING was supported. MP ran ever since then, with varying degrees...

I believe that as far as the digital video part goes, the signal is actually identical, witch make is all the more disgusting that any TV will not accept it but it happens. I have a similar samsung TV to OleJ and mine at lease is marked on the back "DVI/HDMI" but yet it will distort HDMI signals from a PC (DVI -> HDMI) where as VGA...

Here's a log, I went into Moving Pictures, and started playing Pacific Rim, and skipped ahead. It took about 10 seconds to get audio back, and about another 10 seconds to get video. After that it seemed to perform okay, with only a few glitches\stutters\whatever you wanna call it. I've tried running it with different codecs, no...

I built my first HTPC using a silverstone lascala series case for the living room. I had allot of cooling problems, and the case was just adequate, nothing special other than it could easily hold 5 HDDs. I guess I also broke my teeth on this one figuring out how to keep it cool and quiet. At that time 300GBs was large but as soon as...

The PVR-250 is the older model (numbers are wrong way round, go figure) which uses more chips and is more expensive. You can still get them but when I ordered a PVR-250, I got the 150MCE which I have now. Hauppauge said exactly that as well. The 150MCE is cheaper, has FM radio, and has much more actively developed drivers.

MediaPortal hasn't been designed for "media extenders". For them to work with MP, they would need to have their own little MP client written into the firmware of the device. Definitely possible, just not very likely. Thin clients aren't really suitable for front ends for MediaPortal, mainly because they offer very little in the way...

S/PDIF boards usuallly aren't cheap. Most are priced at about $25 and anything I've seen cheaper is rarely in stock. That's half the price of my motherboard that needs one and why I chose a board that has it built in for my HTPC. I think the boards cost the companies about $5 to build so it's kind of a ripoff but what can you do...

Each broadcaster has an assigned RF frequency to use with a bandwidth of 18 MB/s (not exactly sure on the units, but it's adequate for a single HD broadcast and a couple more low resolution sub-channels). And, while the broadcast stream includes all of the sub-channels, one can stream the entire TS to a HDD, but that's where you guys...
