For H264 and GPU decoding use PDVD8. FFDShow doesn't use GPU.
For MPEG2 it's not very important, mpeg2 generally doesn't use much CPU power. However if you want to use GPU then you should choose CyberLink Video/SP Decoder (PDVD8) from that list
780G might be a bit slow for 1080i HDTV, users with vista seem to report less...

... before the Kabini boards arrive, MSI are saying they'll have a Mini-ITX board available with a 10w Intel Bay Trail CPU (Celeron J1800). I'd expect this to be the real competitor to Kabini, with a weaker GPU and stronger CPU, should be more than enough GPU for offloading 1080p though.
Details...

My HD 4670 is dual slot which is why it's silent but you wanted a single slot card to avoid wasting a PCI. I don't need PCI slots at this point so it was a good sacrifice.

Did not build an AMD APU system yet but they seem to suit the needs of a HTPC quite well. I hope the desktop trinity models become more readily available soon. The A10 seems to be a good performer, maybe overkill for a HTPC.

You don't need to buy such gaming hardware. I am using an Athlon64 X2 4200+ with 2GB and an ATI 2400Pro and It plays 1080p over HDMI with CPU usage the most time at 35%. You don't need faster hardware, but you should use a codec with hardware capability. The bigger GPUs do the same acceleration in the same speed, don't they? They...

I have already haha. I actually setup the mobo and CPU to suddenly find the PSU was the problem all along. Easter and a misorder meant I only wound up with the new PSU yesterday (Seasonic 360W G Series 80 plus gold). Absolutely zero issues with the Intel onboard. I didn't even reinstall windows/media portal, just had to reactivate the...

One more question:
From the AMD technical paper:
ALL the Athlon 64 with the same core do have the same lowest state power consumption (22W) and the same highest state consumption of 89W.
So that means that my 2800+ uses 89W @ 1800Mhz.
If I look at a 3200+ which has a higher max state and in addition has several...

Hi
Vector adaptive is an AMD terminus. You won't find this in any Nvidia or Intel GPU. Didn't matter at all, as all modern GPU has adequate technique available.
Probably the HD4000 is the best integrated GPU available today if it comes to Media stuff. It's more than twice as powerful as the biggest GPU, AMD has to offer in their A10...

I think that only applies if the disk uses the Image Constraint Token, which down samples the picture to 480i (or Standard Definition). At the moment the studios have backed away from ICT because of the number of people, especially in the US that have non-HDCP HiDef TVs.

You're right here. Linear read is the most important factor for the "feeled" performance as applications and data files are more close together. You rarely have everything randomly distributed across a drive.
When it comes to seek times (and as a consequence to random access) SDDs are way superior because there is no mechanic...

Even though it seems like overkill, the cost is such now that there's not much point going much lower. £37 is what I paid. And that's the lowest AM3 cpu I could find. Should be able to fiddle with ffdshow without strain. Or have it running more or less as idle and keep the temp and power down.
Anyhow, all arrived and waiting to...

As I said before, most probably Vista uses a different method. Something like a Level 2 page file.
As I said before, these things have limited R/W times, so R/Wing ita few thousands times per day probably means they just have a few months to live.
As I said before USB sticks are terribly slow.

Athlon II x2 235e
For anyone interested in these energy efficient parts:
I have recently installed an Athlon II x2 235e (2.7GHz) as a replacement for the 4850e. It is running well for full HD TV (1080i). No post-processing has been applied as I think the PQ is fine as is.

When I moved into this flat I swore I would get a large TV. 2 years later I still have my ex-wife's 19" TV in a 22'x12'.

Now I am back in the area on an extended basis I will probably get that nice TV I have been wanting.
