Hi,
This is a great list, but I've got one small thing to add.
When I got serious about setting up an HTPC, one of the biggest problems I had was input peripherals. An old-school USB keyboard had obvious limitations - being tethered to the machine and rather ugly when not in use. Plus I still needed a pointing device. So I...

I am glad I saved you a couple of bucks :D
HDMI does some strange things sometimes, I have seen similar reports as you did on several other forums. It also has to do with HDCP and DRM security that doesnt want us to mess around too much.

Hi guys,
Nothing to show, but a little update......
The Seasonic PSU failed on me... but it was swapped out under warranty (one week turn around).
The replacement has a very very quiet hum (only hear it with head against the HTPC).
I'm now running an i7 ivy bridge (was built with an AMD) - so my hope of it being interchangable...

If you look a the content of the ZIP file and open "Deckenplatte.fpd" (german word for "case cover plate") you will find a hint that the case cover plate must be curved as described in the document "Gehäusedeckel.pdf". This document describes how the cover must be bent.
As the description in my document is in german I described the...

Re: CPU reports 55 degrees celsius in idle mode with orignal
If you ask me .. .the Pundit-R case is not intended for moddings ... there is no root for air in the box.
My personal results are - when modding the box just get hotter, more unstabel and I would'nt dare leaving home having the box on AC power.
My conclusion must...

I bought the ASUS Pundit-R to use as my HTPC, but found it to be way too loud!
That's why I'd like to share my progress in...
Thanks for the idea. Masking the front of the case should be very easy since it's almost completely smooth and the holes could be cut out with an exacto knife. I'll look into this stuff later today. But now I'm wondering if a dark marker might even be easier.

Ok last update.
Upscaling is not what it is supposed to be. I'm using microsoft mpeg2 decoder for tv, this together with the scaling functions of my 8800 card are still the best solution. I haven't been able to beat it with any combination of postprocessing, upscaling, etc. The picture is very good so the effort is not worth it...

How would you like your hard disk: rare, medium or well done?
Hi,
I did it: I totally fried my hard disk.
While optimizing my CPU load with HD content by using MPC-HC and DXVA I finally managed to have my CPU load as low as 15%, My video card is (as expected) off loading my CPU, but will therefore also become much hotter (around...

first of all congrats for the successful setup.
i am also interested in a similar setup as my HDDs are about to reach their limits (5 1TB HDDs). currently i am thinking about exchanging 1-2 HDD with bigger HDDs, i.e. swapping a 1TB HDD with a 2TB HDD. this would be a dirty approach though.
so my quesiton would be:
is your media...

Went for one of the DC to DC 200W supplies and works well. Have decided that the case is just too big though and really want to change to a Server/Client setup as I just want a really tiny silent client by the TV.
I used an old Xbox power supply for the PC and it's just too noisy.

Mars,
The rgb scart is taken from the VGA connector.
With a tweaktool like powerstrip you can set the ati Xpress 200 to output a RGB PAL signal.
You can find more info here

Success,
Ben

Hi Dave,
Its all in situ and in use...
But the mod to make it fit is quite straight forward (just need a junior hacksaw and nerves)
You you disassemble the MS IR receiver:
Two screws hidden under the rubber feet
Then the unit should come apart
All you need to do is trim a square off the corner:
Unplug the cable...

80 to 140W isn't as bad as I expected, I'd rate you at 2 freezers :-). Currently I use 105 to 140watts for my server but this includes the switch, modem, micro server and a rather inefficient UPS. With regards the UPS I just worked out today via google that a big UPS with a small load will be inefficent. I am looking at getting a...
