Thank you for investigating the problem! I don't know why PS++ fails unmuting, but nircmd.exe succeeds - but only with a delay of at least 4 seconds. I suppose nircmd.exe takes the default audio device as well... I've looked for a new graphics card driver, but my one is the newest AMD offers :-/...
That was hard to reproduce, but I was lucky to see the bahavior with your debug-version at last. Please see the attached logs. It seems that you are trying to unmute the wrong device, because the device you need to unmute is sometimes not available - at least at the time you are trying to unmute...
I tried the debugging version five times and it always worked, but I'll install it again tomorrow and do a few more test runs to get a more expressive result.
Well... now it works - at least sometimes ;-) But other times it does not... and I cannot say what is different. The solution with nircmd.exe always works, I have no clue why. Quite obscure behavior...

Hello Michael,
sorry for the late answer, I was just too busy. But now I've managed to install the plugin provided last... I don't understand why, but this build works! I've tried it 3 times and it just works... Normally I would say... good work, but I think that is not the desired result for...
Hello Michael,
I've tried the PS++ version you told me, but it still does not work.
@pur_berger
Thank you for your hint. I've tried nircmd.exe as well. First it did not work either, but after I added a delay of 3 seconds before nircmd.exe is called to unmute audio, it really works!!! Perhaps...
Hello Michael,
I tried as you said, but unfortunately it does not work. The log says you're trying to unmute audio after 1 second. I don't really know, but perhaps my graphics card needs more time to become operable again. Would you please increase the delay to 5 seconds, just to see whether...
Hello Michael,
thank you for your answer. I downloaded the installer for the plugin from the forum. Indeed, it's Version 1.2.3.4 (without "RC"). MPEI knows the RC version only.
The problem remains the same. How do you unmute audio programmatically? Is there any kind of device specific handle...
I'm already using the bugfix release of PS++ (V1.2.3.4) as you suggested right at the beginning of the thread, but it doesn't work. The provided log files were also generated by Mediaportal running PS++ 1.2.3.4 RC1.

Hello again,
did the log files tell you what has happened or do you need more information? If yes, please tell me what you need and how I can get it.
Ravenpride
Hmm, running in debug mode can make the problem vanish... perhaps a timing issue due to the time Mediaportal needs to generate additional debug log entries? Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. The log is the log of one of the attempts that did not work.
