I've been running this setup flawlessly since 10-3-2007...

MP RC 2.3 (I believe)
10-3-07 MCE Replacement Plugin
Vista x32

...now, immediately after I rebooted following the SP1 update, my computer no-longer has MCE services disabled. I double-checked the setting in MP plugin config and it's still checked, but all remote functions are running in in the OS without MP running (which it shouldn't be).

...what this causes, is for the volume buttons to mess with the system volume, and the direction buttons to make it double-click everything skipping one each time.

Help!!!

    Hey BillyM,

I've fixed the thread title for you :)

Seems SP1 has reset a few things ... you should try unchecking those options in the MCE Replacement Plugin config and then after a restart checking them again.

In the latest version it should recheck those settings every start.

I'll look into it further, but don't be afraid of updating MCE replacement plugin, the latest version should be better.

    Cheers,

I've installed 1.0.4.2 Preview4, unchecked, restarted, re-checked, restarted, and MCE services are still running.

(Verified by seeing if volume-up/down affects master volume without mediaportal running, and it does.)

    ...any ideas?

    Preview4?

    Could you try Preview 7?

You could try manually disabling the services ... on the Start Menu run Services.MSC locate the mce services and change them to disabled (or maybe manual)...

I'll try this out in my Vista install ... I guess I'll have to install SP1 now ...

If I find anything I'll get back to you.

    Cheers,

As of SP1, there is a service called Human Interface Device Access with the following description.

Enables generic input access to Human Interface Devices (HID), which activates and maintains the use of predefined hot buttons on keyboards, remote controls, and other multimedia devices. If this service is stopped, hot buttons controlled by this service will no longer function. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With this disabled... the volume no longer affects the master volume, but the power button at the top (that I use to flash on/off to the TV) is still forcing my computer to standby, so the OS is still recognizing something of what the remote is doing...

...where is preview 7? I only see preview 4 as the newest in the post linked in your sig.

oh, sorry, you're using MCE Replacement Plugin. I thought you were using IR Server Suite ... silly me.

I'll have to install SP1 on my Vista boot to get a handle on this for you ...

Have you tried making the registry modification to prevent buttons from being acted on?

    Cheers,

I was unaware of any registry modification that keeps windows from acting upon buttons.

    Thanks,

check the "You don't need the MCE Replacement Driver" thread in my signature and look in the device configuration in MCE Replacement Plugin setup for a "Disable Automatic Buttons" checkbox (wow, that is poorly worded now I read it back).

...now windows ignores the power and green buttons, which is great.

...but mediaportal also ignores those buttons, so I can't use them to flash power on to my TV and Stereo.

    ah,

ok go to MCE Replacement Plugin config and click Device Setup -> Configure. Remote Tab, put a check next to Disable Automatic Buttons.

Then make sure you buttons are mapped as you want and try again.

    Cheers,
