    Hello there!

I got a strange problem. After formatting my PC with Windows Vista Ultimate I only installed the Daniel_K drivers for my soundcard instead of the Creative ones. But the following problem also appeared before.

When I click on a mp3-file I have to wait up to 1 1/2 minute until the file plays. Sometimes it plays immediantly, somtimes it plays after a big pause. While the pause the MP freezes...

The files are on a network share. The folders are not too big (50 to 100 files). I use a Gigabit-Ethernet. Everthing ok.

[EDIT] This pause will only appear, when I changed the folder. Once the pause in "Folder A" appeard, it will never appear again and I can switch through the files without having problems. After a restart of MP, the pause will appear again.

The installation of MP is a completly fresh one.[/EDIT]

    Please... can somebody help me?

    Thanks!

    Hi there :)

Think we will have to wait for our music expert, hwahrmann, but in the mean time:

    1. How did you configure the share?
    a) as a mapped drive (example z:\music)
    b) as a UNC path (\\server\share)
Can you try the other way around?

    2. Clean all log files, reproduce the problem, attach full log files (see my signature for details)

    Thanks for the answer.

I'll post log-files, when I'm at home again.

The shares are mapped ones (Z:\Programme | Y:\Multimedia).

In my first post I said, that the pause / freeze appears each time the MP has been restarted. But this was a false information. Once a pause in a folder has appeard, it will appear never again. I installed XFace-Skin and it seems to be a little better.

Sorry, but this problem is hard to explain. It seems, that MP has to cache the music-information like ID3 etc. so that the first play freezes until MP has cached theses infos....

    btw: I use the Bass-Engine.

    Thanks

In MP Configuration, under Music Database you can once-off do the whole scan to update database. Please see if that solves the problem then.

    Ok thanks. I'll try this.

Will MP do this automatically sometimes or do I have to do this manually each month...?

I think the GUI will also add it to database on first use of new media. So the manual scanning should only be done the first time or when you add a lot of stuff afterwards. If you add one album every now and again, the GUI should not be badly affected by slow reaction.

    Okay sounds good.

Today, i'll try your tip - but I'm sure - this is the solution. I've seen the option in the past many times and never used it.

I'll post my result here again.

    Many thanks!
