Hello - can you give me the recommended settings for Blu-Ray playback please, in particular the codecs?
I can select Menu, Title1 or Title2. Then nothing happens.
I did a clean install, not an upgrade, and I included the LAV Filters.
I have good Blu-Ray playback using AnyDVD-HD 7.0.4.0 and external players PowerDVD7.3 Ultra and TMT3 on an ATI 3650 running 12.4b.
I tried four different Blu-Ray discs and never saw a menu or any video. The decryption status in AnyDVD-HD was good. I don't have any unencrypted Blu-Rays to test.
I probably just need to change a setting or two.
Thanks for your efforts on this. Been waiting a long time for this fully-integrated capability.

    Hello and welcome Pomerov :)

The recommended codec settings are the ones that work for you!
Can you post a screenshot of the codec settings that you are currently using please?
If you have TMT3 and PowerDVD 7 then you can also try to use those codecs if LAV doesn't work for you.

Thanks for your quick response mm. I have uploaded my settings windows. I am using the LAV filters. My DXVA2 was off. I switched on each type (native and copy-back) and re-started. They were both 'Available' for my ATI card. But I did not notice any difference. When playing a Blu-Ray, MP becomes unresponsive after choosing Menu or Title. Pressing Stop a few times will usually allow you to get control again after the failed fullscreen exclusive. Sometimes I needed Task Manager because it was 'Not Responding'
Ordinary DVDs play fine, so that is good. I saw the note on BD-Java not being supported. I see folders on my Blu-Rays like BDJO and JAR. Is that the problem?. I have Disable BD-Live ticked in AnyDVD. Is that an effective workaround? Thanks mm

    Hi again

All looks good to me there (although I'm not really the expert with Blu Ray).
Have you checked whether the discs that you're playing have been tested by other people? If you weren't aware, there is a compatibility list in the wiki:
    MP user list
    tourettes (developer) list

    Hi,

EVR mode should be use and not vmr9 :)
Please set debug level (in MP configuration) and post your log files :p

    Thanks.

Edit : I think we should explain in wiki that all new Bluray stuff will only work with EVR (so Win7 and not XP).

Thanks Sebastiii and mm for the above help. I have a separate W7 PC that I can test with. Its lower spec but it does play most Blu-rays ok with the third-party players. I have the 2001 movie which is listed as BD-J: No and Result:OK. I will report back on my progress this evening.

Success with Windows7 + EVR + 1.3.0Alpha + AnyDVD latest. Stanley Kubrick 2001. Using old 2003 Athlon XP 3.2 hardware with PCI 8400 nVidia. It works! But I am behind on A:V sync. Is due to my low spec. No problem. Test is a success.

LAV in DXVA Native mode didn't work with a lot of BDs in MediaPortal when I tested a while back. Have these issues been fixed now?

LAV in DXVA Native mode didn't work with a lot of BDs in MediaPortal when I tested a while back. Have these issues been fixed now?

In past there has been some nasty deadlocks on the LAV video decoder side when DXVA is used (only Blu-ray support on MediaPortal was able to trigger those because of the nature how the Blu-ray clips are joined in seamless fashion to give best possible user experience).

When it comes to LAV video decoder, following order of the decoding engines are recommended:

    1st LAV CUDA
    2nd LAV DXVA copy back
    3rd LAV DXVA

I cannot comment what should be used with Intel HW. Reason why pure DXVA is not recommended is that the video clip boundaries will have dropped frames as the video decoder needs to flush video renderer side on such boundaries (nev or I was not able to find any feasible solution / workaround on the video decoder side).

Pure DXVA mode is recommended only on lower end of 1080p/i capable systems as DXVA copy back requires much bigger memory bandwidth from the system (all video frames travel between the system RAM and GPU RAM where as in non-copy back mode the video frames will reside inside GPU RAM after they have been decoded).

Ok I'm using 1.3alpha, lav 0.50.5 with an nvidia 430gt using Cuvid. My amp is DTS capable, but nothing more. I can get DTS-HD audio to play (drops the extra 2 channels) just fine. TrueHD comes through as 2-channel and when switching audio away from TrueHD it causes a repeated stutter until u stop the movie playing.
In MP config, there's a section for blu rays with "default audio". I think we need a preference list instead of default. For some blu rays the main audio track is English[AC3], where that may be the directors commentary on another blu Ray. Since the menu doesn't always work we will need to go into the menu and change it while playing.

If you have only a DTS capable amp like mine, u tick on the options for DTS and Dolby digital AC3. I can't try any higher audio bitrate streams than that. As I said above I can select the DTS-HD option and it plays the 5.1 channels and drops the other 2 channels, but play perfectly.

If you play a blu Ray and stop it then come back, it saves your position and that indeed works.
