1080p lag. Which Codec's for my system? (1 Viewer)

Hi all,

I have just altered my mediaportal htpc, and now I am experiencing some lag on my 1080p music videos from the hdd and 1080p youtube clips. My system spec is below:

Q6600 Quad Core cpu
3GB DDR2 Ram
250GB HDD (all media streamed from an external freenas server)
Leadtek 1GB GT430 video card (Before the reinstall I was using a 512mb 8800GT)

When I had everything setup previously with the 8800GT I had no lag for 1080p content. I am using SAF 6.0 SVN build (I adjust a few settings in FFDSHOW for better picture, and found that these settings on 6.0.2 made some of the video of my content stutter so much it was unwatchable, but on the older SVN version the same settings on the same videos cause no stuttering at all?!). I will post some screenshots of my FFDSHOW settings when I get home tonight, they are only for MPEG-2 video anyway, for H.264 video I use FFDSHOW DXVA which has no settings changed. All other settings in SAF are default.

So what Im wondering, is what are the best codecs to use for my system? I was considering testing with LAV CUVID but read somewhere that LAV VIDEO has replaced it? Is that correct?

Is there any reason the 8800GT was ok but the GT430 causes stuttering? I think the 8800GT was better in some ways spec wise, but the GT430 should be better in most ways. I needed a power connector for the 8800GT but not for the newer GT430.

Any help with this problem would be MUCH appreciated!

Glen get rid of all installed codecs, run filmerit and ccleaner on registry, install the LAV filters from the desktop MP extensions installer after updating, then go to start menu\Lav filters and under video select cuvid.

Now in MP config\Codecs and renderer, select LAV for everything, except renderer, leave at directsound.

ps. if using external amplifier then you need to configer LAV audio under start menu as well, pretty self explanatory.

I'll do that as soon as I get home tonight and report back. Im familiar with all the programs above except for filmerit, is it a basic wizard style/self explanation program or do I need to follow a guide to run it?

Regarding filmerit, extract to desktop and run as admin, it will check all codecs that are installed, if it finds a problem, use the padlock to unlock, accept agreement and press the big red button to autofix any errors, pretty simple once you know how.

This should then get everything working in MP, plus the bonus of cuvid used instead of dxva for playback.

Thanks so much for your help! I did everything you suggested and I now have no more lags on 1080p videos (so far!). Hopefully the same suggestions can help others in the future

Glad it went fine, LAV filters gets people out of the mess of codec packs, thats why the team recommend it so much.
